Orphic

Mysterious and enchanting beyond ordinary understanding.

Someone pounded on the door. I opened it a crack and looked out.

"Have you seen a Witch?" the man asked.

I shook my head, "No Witch has been here"

"The let us look inside" the man standing at the back of the group said as he stepped forward.

He was tall, with long black hair and dark brown eyes. He wore a simple brown tunic and brown pants.

"Like I said before, no Witch is here or has been here"

"Then you won't have a problem with us looking inside?"

My eyes narrowed, "Actually I do. Leave now, you're no longer welcome here"

Before I could shut the door the man stuck is foot inside and leaned forward, his face inches from mine.

"I know what you are" his breath reeked of alcohol.

     "What exactly am I?"

He smiled, "A creature damned for Hell"

I looked at him for a moment as he pulled his foot back and then I slammed the door, locking it.

"Thank you" a quiet voice said after a moment.

My eyes met a pair of blue ones as I turned around.

She was short, with long black hair and she wore a simple brown dress.

     "Are you?"

     "What?"

     "A Witch"

     "What if I am?"

I sighed, "Forget it" I walked over to the table and sat down, grabbing my cup and taking a swig.

     "Do you not like Witches?"

     "I never said I didn't"

"You also never said you did"

My eyes slid over to her. She was sitting down in front of me, her arms folded on the table.

"I've never cared much for Witches, but I've never hunted them either"

She didn't say anything, she just looked.

The sky grew darker outside and the fire casted shadows across the room.

After a while the fire started to die.

I stood up with a grunt, "I'll be back"

     "Wait" she called out.

I turned around and she had gotten out of her chair and was standing in front of the fire. I watched as she mumbled something under her breath and the fire grew.

     "Will you kill me?"

The door slammed behind me as I walked out.

The wind was cold as it blew. My eyes adjusted to the night as I walked into the woods. I listened to the branches move in the wind and the water flow in the stream. My ears pricked when I heard footsteps and I quickly turned around.

The man from earlier was standing there.

"What are you doing out here?"

He smiled, "Hunting" he held up something, "Here" he tossed it to me.
