It was the light from the lightning that showed them slithering towards me.

I sat in my chair behind my desk, a glass of scotch in front of me and I looked around my hand tightening around my glass.

The song from the record player was starting to end and then the torment would begin.

~Five Days Prior~

"Look Lincoln the house is gorgeous!"

Lorena smiled at me as she walked up the steps to our new house.

This house was was beautiful. It was an old Victorian home, with sage colored brick and a big wooden cedar door that looked out into the yard.

"It is" I smiled and followed her into the house.

The inside was just as beautiful as the outside and I was shocked at the price.

My phone rang and I reached into my pocket, pulling it out and answering, "Hello"

"Mr. Graves?"

"Yes"

"My name is Melinda, I used to live in the house you just bought"

My eyes sightly widened, "Oh. Did you need something?"

"No, no" panic was laced through her voice, "I just wanted to give you a courtesy call"

"About?"

"The house"

I smiled at Lorena as she pointed at the fireplace, "What about the house?"

"It's haunted"

    "What?"

Melinda took in a breath, "It's haunted Mr. Graves. Don't believe the shadows they're not there to help"

"The shadows? What are you talking about?"

"The shadows Mr. Graves, the shadows aren't there to help. They want their house back and they will do anything to get it"

I chuckled, "This is a prank right?"

"Don't believe the shadows. Don't believe the shadows" she hung up.

I held my phone back and looked at the screen.

"Who was that honey?"

"Melinda"

"Melinda?" she asked as I rounded to corner to the kitchen.

I stopped in the doorway.

'Should I tell her?'

"Lincoln?" Lorena was standing in front of me.

"Sorry" I coughed, "She was the previous owner of the house"

"Oh, what did she want?" she went back to unpacking the boxes.

"Just wanted to tell us how beautiful the house is"

Lorena chuckled, "It is" she held up a glass, "Would you start helping me unpack?"

I smiled, "Of course"

I bent down to pick up a box and froze. A pair of eyes were looking back at me from under the cabinets. They were pitch black and when it smiled I stumbled back. I couldn't look away as it slithered towards me and latched onto my leg.

I kicked, but it did nothing as it made it's way up.

Before it could reach my head I felt a hand on my shoulder.
