Chapter 8

“SANDY!” And in the next moment I was spinning in the air. Good to see Cooper was still his crazy self he was around Liza. I have to admit I missed the kid, even though we had only met once. Is that creepy?

“Hey, Cooper,” I say as I try to escape his hold.

“That’s all I get? ‘Hey, Cooper’? No, ‘Oh Cooper I have missed your face’! Or maybe even, ‘Oh, Cooper! I have missed your sparkling personality’?” He asks me as we walk into the small café.

We had decided to meet outside because I had a feeling this crazy would happen. Plus it saved me the embarrassment of pacing around the café like a crazy person.  Now I’m just pacing outside like a crazy person. Hey, I am in New York after all. There are crazies everywhere in this city.

“Hey, Cooper,” I say with a smile. His face drops in disappointment, but I can tell his faking it from the mischievous glow in his eyes.

“Well, ok then!” He says to me. But he just laughs at his attempt of humor.

            “So how’s life been?”

“Well, it’s been pretty darn horrible. My roommate was starting to worry about my mental health.”

“Oh, really? Should I ask why?”

“Well, I mean, wouldn’t you be considered if your best mate was just sitting by a phone all day? Did you like my little British? I’ve been working on expanding my foreign slang.” I just laughed and nodded in response.

“Don’t tell me you were waiting for my call?” I say with innocence.

“Don’t be so full of yourself, Sandy. I was awaiting a very important call from my guy.” He says as he rolls his eyes.

            “Your guy?”

“Yes, he gets me tickets for advanced movies and Broadway shows and stuff. He works at Ticketmaster and Fandango. I was working on getting tickets to Iron Man 3.”

“Makes sense,” I tell him as we come up to the counter.

Because of my amazing luck, it turns out Beth is working again. It’s safe to say I have pretty bad luck. I ordered a peppermint latte and Cooper got a hot chocolate.

“I’m trying to cut back on caffeine,” he tells me after he orders.

To clarify it wasn’t a date, I paid for my own drink. We ended up not staying at the café much longer, and just decided to walk the streets.

“But yeah, since I couldn’t snag those tickets, a call from you was ok, I guess.” He says as we walk behind a line of teenage girls. I mean, honestly, you don’t take up the entire sidewalk and walk at snail pace. People have places to get. Obliviously they were tourists, two out of the five were wearing shirts with an ‘I Heart NY’ logos under the collar.

“So anyway, Is was pretty happy when I finally got away from the phone.”

“Is?” I asked him in confusion.

“Oh! Yeah, Is is my roommate. Full name Isaiah Chase Monroe. He hates when anyone uses his first name, but I do anyway. Yeah, I’ve known him since 6th grade. Best friends 5eva and such.”
