Chapter 14

Today, Chase, Cooper and I decided to just hang out at their apartment. Since meeting Liza, Chase has seemed intrigued and is somewhat suspicious. He’s a tab bit more observant than Cooper is, ok that’s a bit of an understandment. He’s a lot more observant than Coop.  So while we were just laying around Chase leaning over to me.

“So a little birdie told me your birthday was coming up,” he said to me over a now sleeping Cooper’s snores.

I looked at a calendar by their television and saw the date. March 13. I blush as I realized he was right. Two days until I’m twenty. I  looked at him, “Yeah, I guess it is…”

“Why didn’t you tell us?” He asked me with curious eyes.

            “Well, I kind of forgot…”

“You forgot about your birthday?!” He nearly yelled. Cooper jumped in his sleep and stirred for a minute as we watched him, but then calmed down and fell back asleep.

“Yeah…is that weird?” I ask him.

“Well kind of…”he said looking at me as a freak.

“Sorry,” I say as I look down and feel a blush race onto my face, to which he just laughs at.

“One minute!” He said as he jumped up and ran down the hall. I sat there watching Ice Road truckers when I heard something fall followed by Chase yelling.

“Are you ok?!” I yelled at him.

“Just peachy,” he said from another room.

In a few minutes, I hear him walk out. Then I feel something hit my shoulder. I looked down to see a pair of off white, fuzzy boots. I look up to see Chase smirking down at me. “Ow!”

He laughs as he takes a seat next to me. “I hope you like them.”

“I do,” I tell him with a sweet smile, “You shouldn’t spend your money on me, Chase.”

“Don’t worry about it, Cas. Because of my job at the shop, I got them for free. Employee perks and such,” he tells me with the smirk still playing on his face.

I hit his shoulder and turn my attention back to the television. Still looking ahead I say in a low voice, “Thanks anyway.”

I can almost hear the smile on his face as he replies, “Anything for you, Cas.”

I fix the hat on my head, despite the fact I’m indoors. I let out a huff of air and lay back further in the sofa and put my feet up on their coffee table in front of me.

“Didn’t your mother ever teach you not to put your feet on other’s furniture?” He asks jokingly, “And I’m digging the socks by the way,” he says with a laugh.

“I thought you might,” I reply with the same joking manner and turn to give him a wink. I laugh to myself as I look down at my owl patterned socks. Honestly, I’ve been too do a lot of laundry, so I just put these on under my boots.

“Oh, typical Cassie. Trying to empress me,” He says teasingly beside me.

“Oh, typical Chase. Trying to be funny,” I reply with the same expression.
