MAGNOLIAS ON THE WALL

"if being a mom is all you wanted"

-

the silence in the room was a weird thing, none of them were expecting it, but it's something that usually happens when you have a lot to talk about and don't exactly know how to begin to unpack it.

it was agonizingly painful, to say the least. they didn't know how to bring it up. there were a lot of mixed feelings, some more positive than others.

"so you were already pregnant when we met?" the curly haired woman cut the agonizing silence with a simple question.

if there was a way to start off an important conversation, that one for sure wasn't the most reliable.

nina furrowed her eyebrows. "excuse me?"

"gina i don't think it's-"

"you shut up!" she exclaimed, her voice raising towards the young man beside them. he didn't want to, but he knew nina (and gina) would appreciate if he just stayed quiet, so he unwillingly nodded instead.

"so it's my fault then?" surprisingly, nina looked extremely serene. ricky didn't know if that was a good or a bad thing. he cautiously sat on the sofa next to the bed, watching the whole scene unfold right in front of him. he watched them interact in worry, and slight amusement.

gina opened her mouth to respond but nothing came out of it. the brunette in front of her noticed her hesitancy right away.

"i get it, it's easier for it to be my fault than call that bagley bitch and tell her to pay back because you didn't get the human baby toy you wanted"

gina was perplexed. in all these months they've been... acquaintances, never, not even once, had nina said something contrary to what gina said or spoke up for that matter. gina couldn't exactly say she disliked it, planning the arrival of a child was way easier when the carrier wasn't being too opinionated. seems like nina did have things to say now that things were completely different.

how oportune! she thought.

"but you agreed with it! with me!"

the brunette sighed. "to fulfill your dream or whim or whatever it is, not for the child to be mine, or his. we don't even know each other!"

"did you just said 'or whim'?!"

"hm, valid point." the curly haired man muttered at the same time the woman exclaimed her discomfort for nina's chosen vocabulary. gina glared at him, which made him extremely uncomfortable.

he cleared his throat. "um, if you excuse me i think it'd better if i le-"

"yes-" gina started to agree. "no." nina cut her off firmly. "he stays. he'll be a witness of our conversation. i'm tired of everything and i really want to solve this, i think we all do"

both nodded slowly, although gina hesitated at first.

"all i'm saying is that she's still your child, maybe not by blood but you planned her and you took the initiative to make it happen... you could always adopt her. that is, of course, if being a mom is all you wanted."
