《 "trust me, you don't want me to see her" 》
-
"gina, this is nina, she will carry your child in her stomach" the dark haired woman explained in front of both women, who where face to face. gina smiled genuinely to the pretty young girl in front of her, before she could think about what she was doing, the dark skinned woman embraced the tiny girl within her arms.
nina smiled awkardly and patted gina's back, not really knowing what to do. affection wasn't one of her strongest skills. in natalie's eyes, this particular ability made her perfect for the job. all of her vulnerability and her difficult past changed her into what she is today.
miss bagley would be surprised to know that a cold and indifferent girl like nina salazar roberts would be the only one in her family's illegal business to break their strict rules.
after a simple and short talk, they went straight to signing their contracts. "so nina, your contract is different than hers. if you sign, you're agreeing with taking all your prenatal vitamins, medical appointments, and as soon as you sign we can start the treatment." the young girl nodded quietly and signed without putting much thought into it.
"and what both contracts have in common is that both of them include a privacy deal. we won't talk publicly about what we do here, for the state this is not... fully legal. if someone asks gina is going to adopt or you decided out of your heart and good soul to give her the child she wanted, no money or remuneration involved. is that clear?" miss bagley eyed her client while she signed and nodded, agreeing with her.
the tiny, brown eyed girl pursed her lips. "w- when will i receive my first paycheck?"
"right now!"
and there the story started, with a palpable wish of a successful hardworking woman and the need of a naive girl who thought that things were going to be easier.
the next day the so called treatment started. dr robert bagley, natalie's father, did what he was payed for.
he implanted an embryo on the young woman's womb; product of an anonymous sperm and the client's ovum, also known as gina porter. at least, that's what he was supposed to do. a surrogate pregnancy process, which is illegal in new york city.
illegal if you wanted to pay or receive money because of it, only altruistics deals were allowed. that means, nobody earned anything.
it was a simple yet complicated task; to grow a baby which you're not related to, and then birth it. not really telling anyone that you had a deal and that you were being remunerated.
because that's how the clandestine world works, the fear, the danger and the unfairness pushing you to do things most people would condemn.
because, what is prohibited is meant to be done, sooner rather than later.
succesfully, the client and the carrier were reunited once again in the same room they had done everything about three weeks before, the room had several medical devices scattered all around, alongside with a desk and a couch to receive patients, all this, inside the bagley's giant household (and business).
