Fate?
My confusion level has now gone off the charts. All my body wants to do is kiss him again. All my mind wants to do is figure out why?
Even though I know next to nothing about the man standing in front of me, I feel this incredible pull towards him. And he knows why. But he's not telling me. I need answers or I'm going to go nuts. Maybe I already have!
I decide to be honest. I'm not sure what, if anything, I have to lose bearing my heart and soul to a literal stranger, but I have to try. He's something special to my soul. Sacred even. I can feel it.
"Please, Cody... I'm going crazy here. I need to understand why I'm being pulled towards you by some invisible rope. I don't know why I need you, but I do, and I have to know why. I don't think anything could scare or freak me out more than the fact I'm standing in the dark wilderness with a stranger wanting to have wild animal sex."
He watches me from hooded eyes, smirking at the last part of my speech. Tilting his head back up to the moon, he's bathed in the pale moonlight like some sort of ancient mythological forest god. After a moment he sighs and breaks the silence, "Let's go see Bill."
We walk back to the camp and Bill is already waiting for us. Add that to the confusion I'm drowning in. How did he know we were coming to see him?
Bill has three cups of some kind of tea steeping. It smells herbal.
"Welcome back. The meat will be ready soon, but I think you and your sisters could use a drink." I can't help but be suspicious, and he reads me like a book. "Don't worry darlin', it isn't drugs or poison. It's tea from a plant called greenthread. Every year we travel down to the desert and harvest it to make tea. Our Navajo ancestors made this, and it's still a great comfort to our people as well.
"I just thought you girls could use some help to relax. Besides, we have much to talk about." He gestures for me to sit down with my sisters. We take the cups of tea and I'm grateful for the warmth in my hands.
"The moon, she's beautiful tonight." He looks up to the sky. My sisters and I look up as well. "What do you feel?" Bill asks.
"Cold." Sky retorts. Liz giggles.
"I feel a pull." I answer, knowing I'll sound crazy to my sisters, but there's something happening here and I'm not giving up until my questions are answered.
Bill nods to me in agreement, "What else?"
I can see Cody shifting around restlessly, arms crossed, standing away from the group near the trees.
I think about it then say a Hail Mary and go all in, "I feel like a wild animal wants to stretch my body and break out, run free."
Bill nods again. My sisters are both staring at me, mouths open. "Yeah, you don't have to look at me like I'm crazy. I already feel insa-"
"No!" Sky cuts me off, "you're not crazy... I feel it too.
"As far back as I can remember. I thought it was just my imagination because mom and dad used to joke and call me their 'feral child'."
Liz looks at Sky and then at me then blushes. "You too, Liz?" Sky asks. Liz face reddens even more and she nods.
"But more." She adds quietly. Seeing the questions in our eyes she speaks up, "I have very lucid dreams. There's a woman with white hair, but she isn't old. She talks to me and tells me my time is coming, and to be patient. She tells me that we are special to her."
Bill looks surprised. Cody is looking at the moon and then bows his head. I'm relieved I'm not alone, but more confused than ever, which is surprising because I didn't think I could get any more confused.
