1st Year - 19 years old
"Italy – food – Dani – "
Half of my monitor was a Facetime I was on with Mia while the other half was a paper I was trying to work on.
"Mia, your connection really sucks," I commented, taking my attention away from the right side of the screen. Her side of the screen was fuzzy but I could still make out her eyes, the eyes that I missed so much.
"Hold – "
I watched her screen move from what seemed to be a park in the background to a coffee shop, about 30 seconds later, her face appeared clearly.
"Can you hear me now?"
"Much better," I said, "so what were you saying about Italy?"
Mia told me about everything she was up to that day and asked me to come to visit her soon even though we both knew that I couldn't leave in the middle of the semester.
I heard keys unlocking my door and looked at the time, knowing that Delilah was back from class.
"Do you know what I hate more than group projects?" she announced tossing her keys onto her desk, "group projects with people who either don't want to do the work or they're incredibly hard to get ahold of."
She peeked around me to look at my screen, "oh hey, Mia. Don't mind my stupid rant."
Mia laughed and waved back, "I was about to ask how you are, but I think I got my answer."
"I need a drink," she grumbled, "you coming, Dani?"
"It's Tuesday," I pointed out.
"and I still need a drink," she gave me a pointed look and when I didn't concede, she started to whine, "come on Dani. I've had a really bad day and all I want is to grab a drink with you."
"I have to finish a paper," I answered turning around to find an unimpressed Mia.
"Her paper's not due until next week!" she mentioned.
Delilah's eyes went wide, "woooow, you're choosing to do a paper over me - a girl who is not only your roommate but your friend, who in her time of need you decide to do a paper."
I tuned her out and turned back to my screen, "I hate you," I mumbled to her who just smiled innocently, "no, you don't."
I narrowed my eyes at her, I hated when she was right.
"You never go out, Dani and you said at the beginning of the year that there would be a parade of girls coming in and out of here," she looked around dramatically, "the only girls I see here is a young hot thang wasting her youth away doing homework, a bitch in a committed relationship with her boyfriend in the army, and a girl forever stuck in a computer screen who has impeccable taste in clothes."
"Thanks, Delilah," Mia gushed.
"yeah, thanks Delilah," I repeated with sarcasm, "and I never said that - I told you Mia wrote that message."
"Doesn't change the fact that you never have fun, your head's always in a notebook or glued to your laptop."
"I agree, I think you should go," Mia piped up.
I took off my glasses, "I don't have anything to wear and besides, we're doing our weekly catch-up."
"Woke up, walked to this cute little Italian coffee shop, enjoyed a cafe latte with some bread and jam. Then I went to see the leaning tower of Pisa, obviously had to take pictures which I'll send to you later, then I went to the park to oogle some hot Italian men but had to run into this coffee shop to steal their wifi and now we're here," she finished with a smile. "Now open up your closet and let Delilah and I pick out an outfit for you."
