I never want to see you sad

"So what you're saying is that you're grateful I told you to ask Sadie out and now you're forever in my debt?

I looked up from my notes and gave my best friend an unimpressed look, "not in so many words, but yes. I am thankful that your nosiness helped my love life."

"That is the worst way to thank someone, I mean, insulting my character?" she joked, "but the date went well, right?"

My mind went back to the date a couple of nights ago, "it went very well," the memory of when Sadie pulled away first after our kiss and her stumbling over her words to say good night made me smile.

"Oh my God, you really like her!" Mia squealed from her side of the screen, "look at the goofy smile you have on your face."

I looked into the square on the bottom right of the screen and sure enough, I was smiling like an idiot, "ok fine!" I rolled my eyes with a smile, "I'm really happy you pushed me to ask her out because I had the best time with her."

"You should stop putting up a fight whenever I suggest something," she sat back with a smug smile on her face.

I put my pen down, "weren't you the one who suggested we dance in the rain that one time?"

"Yes? After that dance right?"

"And we both got really sick after?" I raised an eyebrow at her.

She laughed, "if I remember correctly, you were giggling nonstop whenever you jumped into a puddle that night so if you're asking if I regret it? Then no I don't and I know you don't either because you looked like you were having a better time than I was."

I thought back to that night and she was right, even though I was hesitant to get off the porch and dance with her in the rain, I ended up having fun. I've found that this happens a lot with Mia where she'll push me out of my comfort zone for the better.

"Okay maybe that wasn't the worst thing ever, but that was a bad example," I finally said, "how was your date?"

She let out a sigh, "it was alright but I don't think there'll be a second date."

My ears perked up and I sat straighter in my chair, "Oh? Why not?"

She shook her head, "there was definitely a physical attraction in the beginning," she bit her lip, "but when we went to dinner I realized very quickly that we didn't have any chemistry other than a physical one."

I suddenly felt guilty about feeling happy that her date didn't go well, "Sorry to hear that, Mia, I know you were really excited about it."

She shrugged her shoulders, "it's not a big deal and he took the rejection to a second date well." She smiled, "I'm glad at least one of us had a good date night, when are you two going out next?"

My phone lit up with Sadie's name displayed on the screen, "apparently tomorrow night," I said with a grin, "she said it's Latin night at the restaurant she works at and there'll be dancing and really good food."

Mia looked on with a smile, "that sounds like a lot of fun," she bit her lip, "Dani I won't be able to do our weekly catch-up next week."

"Why not?" I pouted.

"Don't make that face," she laughed, "I'll be on a flight to Denmark the same time that we usually talk."

"But we can talk when you land right?" I asked.

She shook her head with a sad smile, "I've already checked what the time difference would be and you'll be asleep."

"You don't know that," I grumbled but I knew she was right. I was already lacking sleep just trying to keep up with my classes and this new relationship with Sadie.
