The phone hit the ground with a loud thud but I couldn't be bothered with that at the moment.
"Natalie?" I was so shell-shocked at the fact that the girl who I stopped looking forward to seeing in the halls in high school was standing in front of me right now. The surprise in her eyes confirmed that she was just as shocked.
"Dani? I-," she shook her head, "how are you!"
I blinked, "I think the better question is where have you been?!"
The doors started closing and she took a quick step forward, her shirt barely making it in as well.
"Uh, thanks for holding the doors," she looked around the cart awkwardly and bent down to pick up my phone, "sorry about that, I think someone's still on the line."
I looked down at the screen and realized Del was still talking. I took the phone from Natalie and pressed it against my ear but before I could say anything, Delilah was already asking a million questions.
"Dani? Are you okay? What happened? Who is that? Do you need help? Forget it I'm leaving now."
"Del," I sighed, "I'm okay I just dropped my phone. I'll be there soon," I hung up the phone and stood in the elevator with Natalie awkwardly.
She laughed nervously, "this wasn't exactly how I thought we'd see each other again."
I pressed the ground button with a little too much force and felt the cable bringing us down, "and how exactly did you imagine it?" I crossed my arms, "do you have any idea how worried I was? I didn't even know if you were alive!"
Natalie visibly winced at my outburst, "I know and I'm sorry, but if you'll give me a chance to explain..."
I shook my head, "I can't, I'm meeting up with my best friend for a very late drink."
"Mia?"
I frowned, "no Delilah, Mia's somewhere in Europe right now."
"Oh, well can I come with then?"
I raised an eyebrow at her, "where? Europe?"
"No," she laughed and hit my arm, "to the bar, with your friend."
Was this girl crazy? If I wasn't trapped in an elevator with her, I would've walked away already.
"Please, Dani," her eyes were full of sincerity and call me naïve but I gave in.
"Fine," the doors opened, "follow me."

Natalie and I walked through the doors of the bar, loud music was playing and a crowd of people were at the bar. I stole a glance at her and saw her looking around slightly anxious, "this way," I took her wrist gently and found Delilah at our usual table.
"There you are!" She looked down at my hand still clasped around Natalie's wrist and raised an eyebrow at me but I just shook my head.
"Sorry I'm late, I was just doing some last-minute stuff for the presentation," I mumbled and took the seat across from her.
"I'm used to it," she replied and turned her attention to Natalie, "I'm Delilah, Dani's roommate and best friend, well right after Mia," she stuck her hand out which Natalie took, "Natalie, Dani and I went to high school for a little bit."
"We bumped into the elevator on my way here," I offered, picking up my warm beer and taking a sip.
"And I invited myself because I wanted to explain something to Dani," she sat down next to me while Delilah tried to flag down a server, "what are you drinking tonight, Natalie?"
