"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today in the presence of the witnesses to join Emil and Amelia in holy matrimony; and therefore is not to be entered into lightly but reverently, passionately, lovingly, and solemnly."

I sat in the uncomfortable church pew, listening as the priest continued. My eyes traveled up towards the altar at my best and oldest friend Mia. She looked so beautiful with her hair pulled up into a romantic updo with a crown of flowers. But I wasn't here to celebrate her wedding, no I was here to ruin it. See, I've been in love with Mia for half my life. I know what you're thinking, I fell into the stereotype of a lesbian falling for her straight friend. There have been books written about this stuff. But sometimes you can't help who you fall for.

"If any person can show why they may not be joined together --- let them speak now or forever hold your peace."

I took a deep breath as I prepared to stand up and speak out. But before I do that, let me take you back, about 15 years back exactly.
