Over the course of the next two days I was getting used to the town pretty well. My brother had started hanging out with the Cobra gang. You could just tell they were bad news. My dad was on him about finding better friends but Sam insisted they were nice. Yeah, right.

I went on a small walk to escape the ruckus of my mother and father fighting. They weren't big fighters I think they're just stressed about my dads new job and the new house. I came across a tree house. I climbed the ladder and pushed up the door. It wouldn't budge. I pushed again but harder and it popped open. "HEY!" Two voices shouted. I looked up and my eyes met with Chris and Teddy's. "Oh, hey, sorry, I didn't know this was your guys tree house. They both gave each other a look.

"It's fine. Come on up." Teddy told me. I climbed the rest of the way up and sat on a chair. "Soo what are you guy's playing." I asked after a minute. "Thirty-one" Teddy says keeping his eyes on his card. "I KNOCK!" Chris blurts out. "BULLSHIT!" Teddy yells. I started to giggle. It was apparent they were both very competitive. "28." Chris says, looking at Teddy waiting for his answer. Teddy throws down his cards. "16." He says obviously very mad.

Soon we hear a knock on the door. They opened it and Gordie came in. He said hi to Chris and Teddy and when he spotted me he hesitated. "Uh, hi." He says. "Hey!" They play another round but with Gordie this time. I don't play I just watch. We hear another knock. "That's not the secret knock!" Yells Gordie. "I forgot the secret knock just let me in!" The person yells. I recognize it to be the kid Vern. "Vern." The boys all say in unison confirming my thoughts.

They open the hatch and let Vern up. "Guys, I gotta tell you something that's so rad you'll never believe it. Vern says out of breath. He sits down. Let me catch my breath I ran all the way from my house!" "I RAN ALL THE WAY HOMEE!" Chris, Gordie, and Teddy start to sing. I started laughing. "Come on guys!" Vern says. "Spit it out Verno!" Chris says. "Do you want to go see a dead body." I stop laughing instantly. The boys go silent. He tells us about how when he was digging for his pennies he over heard his brother and his friend say they saw the body down by the back Harlow road.
