Continuing my routine of either going to Teddy's or to the tree house, I started walking. When I made it to the tree house I didn't hear anyone inside so I let myself in. I climbed up the ladder and saw Teddy in there. "Oh hey." I say with a smile. "Hey Brooke." He said taking another drag from his cigarette. "Where's everyone?" I ask. "Not sure." He said and then took another drag from his cigarette, this time longer. "What's wrong?" He looked up at me. "Brooke, what are we?" His question took me off guard. I didn't know what to say. "I don't know Teddy..." I say hesitantly. "We've been hanging out a lot and we've gotten really close." I say. "Maybe we should make this official, yeah?" He says. I smile at him. "Yeah, we should."

He smiled giddily. "Ok, let me do this the right way. Brooklyn will you be my girlfriend?" He asks me with a smirk. "Of course." I say laughing.

Being Teddy's girlfriend was the best. We didn't tell the guys but we expected they would find out sooner or later. It was fun to sneak around with each other trying to not be caught by one of the guys. Vern had seen us getting touchy in the tree house a few times but Teddy convinced him it was nothing.

One day on our way to the tree house Teddy gave me something. "Brooke, I want you to have this." Teddy said touching my arm stopping me from walking ahead. He started to take the dog tag of his neck and place it on me. "Teddy, no this is your dad's dog tag." I shake my head. I knew the dog tag was his most prized possession. "No, I want you to have it." He told me continuing to put the dog tag over my head. "Are you sure?" I say smiling up at him. "Yep." He said. I put my arm through his and we walked the rest of the way to the tree house.

A few days later Chris started asking questions. "Hey, isn't that Teddy's?" He said pointing at the dog tag around my neck. I didn't know what to say. If I say one thing it might lead to more questions and then Chris finding out. All the guys in the tree house stared at me, waiting for my answer. I looked at Teddy hoping he would help me out. "Well uh-" I start. "Me and Brooklyn are dating." Teddy blurts out.

The guys knowing about us dating was as fun as them not knowing. Even though the sneaking around was fun now we could be touchy with each other in front of them.

I awoke to a series of bangs on my door. I was home alone, Sam with his friends and my parents staying at a nice hotel somewhere. I was hesitant to open the door but when I finally did I was met with Teddy. He looked really upset. "What's wrong?" I ask him. He walks in the door and heads to my room. "Brooklyn you gotta come with me." He said pacing around my room. "Teddy what's wrong? Go where?" He was really scaring me at this point. "My dads back and he's worse. I'm running away. You gotta come with me." I tried to process all he just said. In the spur of the moment I just agreed. "Ok, let me get packed." I pulled my suitcase out from under my bed and just threw clothes in and some of my other essentials. As soon as I was done packing he took my bag outside and put it in the trunk. I wrote a quick note to my family.

I'm leaving, not sure when I'll be back. I'll call you! Love you, Brooke.

I scribbled onto a piece of paper and left it on the kitchen table.

I ran outside and hopped into the passenger seat of his car. "Let's go." I tell him. We speed off into the night.

(Sorry for the bad ending idk what to do with this book and also if you don't get it these things are happening over the years)
