- Oscar POV 1888 -
Today was Oscar's 8th birthday, and needless to say, he was VERY excited. He skipped down the street on his way home from school, pausing every once in a while to wait up for his friends. Yes, that's right. Friends. After a few months of school, Oscar had finally made two friends, Thomas and Leroy, or Roy as most called him. And since it was his birthday, his mother let him bring both of them over for the evening to play.
"Hurry up, guys!" Oscar called over his shoulder.
"We'se a-comin'," Roy said. "You'se jus' too far ahead!"
"Well 'scuse me fer wantin' ta git home so's we can play 'cause it's my birthday," Oscar said.
"So how's dis brudda a yers?" asked Thomas. "Is 'e any fun?"
"Morris? Any fun?" Oscar asked. "Morris is loads a fun! You'se jus' wait an' see."
(a very lovely time skip)
Later that night, Oscar walked into the main room to find Thomas and Leroy making fun of Morris.
Morris looked on the verge of tears.
This made Oscar madder than he's ever been before. "You don't talk to my brother like that!" he yelled.
"Whaddya gonna do about it?" taunted Roy.
"I'll show you!" Oscar growled, and ran at Roy.
Then Oscar did something he never thought he'd do. He punched Roy. Right in the nose.
Roy stumbled backwards, a pained expression on his face. Thomas and Morris just stood there gaping. Oscar thought Roy would come right back at him, but instead, he started crying.
"What happened?" asked Mrs. Pennington as she burst into the room.
"Oscar punched me!" whimpered Roy.
Oscar glanced down at his wrist. There were a few drops of blood on it. There was no escaping this now.
His mother whipped around to face him, cold, hard glare on her face.
"Oscar Pennington, I am very disappointed in you," she said. "Go to your room right now, and do not come out until you say I can."
"But Ma," Oscar said, "he was making fun of Morris!"
"I don't really care about what he did right now, because you have no right to punch someone. Now go!"
Oscar hung his head and trudged to his room, but not before he got a look at Roy's face. Roy wasn't crying anymore, and instead had a smug smile on his face. That's when Oscar realized that it all had been a show. But there was nothing he could do about it now.
And they were bullying Morris. He didn't just punch Roy for no reason!
He slammed the door and flopped on the bed. He was in for a long night the way his mother sounded.
This was the worst birthday EVER.
