If you had asked a four-year-old Izuku Midoriya what he wanted to do when he was older, he would have answered immediately that he wanted to be a hero, just like All Might. He would have exclaimed that he was going to be Katsuki Bakugo's hero partner and they were going to win with smiles on their faces.
If you had asked a fourteen-year-old Izuku Midoriya the same question, he would have answered similarly, just with more reluctance and a bittersweet smile. The sparkle in his eyes had disappeared and it was as clear as day that he lacked hope in his dream. He wouldn't mention Katsuki Bakugo in his dream, too scared of invoking his childhood friend's ire.
If you had asked a sixteen-year-old Izuku Midoriya what his dream was, he would have answered with a confident smile that he was becoming a hero. Of course, many of his classmates and a few of his teachers would already argue that he was already a hero, even if he didn't have his license yet. A hero was someone who saved people and inspired hope, and that's exactly what Izuku did. Of course, others would say that whilst Izuku was most certainly a hero, he had a very severe Hero complex, but that's neither here nor there. Izuku was a hero, in every sense of the word, nobody could dispute that.
So then, why had his life spiralled out of control so rapidly? Why was it that despite his hard work, despite the fact that he had broken himself over and over again to prove that he was powerful enough to be a hero, despite the fact that he had saved not one, not two, but four children from danger without the aid of a professionally trained hero, despite the fact that he had brought down plenty of villains, both petty and otherwise, he was being treated this way? Forced to remain silent whilst people who didn't know him claimed that he had done things that he had never even imagined doing. Why was it that he was forced to sit through the blatant lies spewing from the mouths of these government officials who hadn't spent a day of their lives risking everything for the innocent?
"His face can be clearly seen on video, he was the one who committed this string of crimes. He slid information to the League of Villains," a stuffy official from the Hero Commission sneered.
"So you're just going to ignore the fact that there are plenty of villains out there who are capable of manufacturing this false evidence?" Aizawa drawled lazily.
"As we've stated plenty of times," Principle Nezu started in a mild voice, though anger gleamed in his beady eyes, "Midoriya had alibis for every incidence that you have accused him of. His classmates can definitively state that he was with them for nine out of eleven of these situations. The other two times he was training with All Might. Is that not sufficient proof?"
"Ordinarily yes, but these videos are evidence enough. Not to mention the notebooks we've found in Midoriya's room that contain all sorts of information on his classmates' quirks as well as the quirks of hundreds of pro heroes. He has been passing this information onto the League of Villains." another stuffy official stated with finality.
Izuku wanted nothing more than to speak up for himself, defend against every point that they made, but All Might's heavy hand on his shoulder stopped him. He had been told to remain silent until they permitted him to speak, to go against the instructions of the people accusing him of all sorts of deeds would only make his case worse.
"And, as we've told you many times, though it appears as though your ears are blocked, those notebooks can't be counted as evidence when the League of Villains have not used any of the information within them to attack us. Ask any one of the students in Class 1A, and they'll tell you that they're well aware that Midoriya takes notes on their quirks. Are you insinuating that interest in quirks and their inner workings makes someone inherently villainous? Because that's what it sounds like to me." Present Mic scoffed.
"That is beside the point," one of the officials snapped, "This is not a matter that is up for debate, you are simply wasting time. Midoriya Izuku will be expelled from UA High School on the authority of the Hero Saftey Commission. We see this as the correct path to take and you do not have a say."
"You have not done a proper investigation." Aizawa grumbled scathingly, "You are using whatever you can to remove Midoriya from the hero course because you don't like that he's opposed to you, as many people are because of your incompetence. I wouldn't be surprised if you were the ones to create this false evidence."
For a second, the two officials seemed to be taken by surprise. Their eyes widened ever so slightly and they glanced at each other with something akin to fear in their eyes. That was all Izuku needed to see to know that he had, in fact, been set up by the Commission. They wanted him gone, so they had fabricated lies about him.
"Midoriya is to be removed from the hero course at once lest you wish to have your school decertified. He is to return to his guardian's care. He will be barred from entering any other hero course in Japan." the Hero Commission officials stood from their chairs and straightened out their suits, sending harsh looks of contempt towards Izuku as they did so. They left the office with a click, leaving Izuku and the rest of UA's faculty sat in silence.
At some point, the teachers started to leave, sending Izuku sympathetic looks as they did so. Soon enough, it was just Aizawa, All Might, Nezu and Izuku left in the room.
Silence saturated the air.
"Midoriya, please know that we will be doing everything that we can to ensure that you can come back to us, but it may take some time," Nezu hummed sympathetically. Sympathy was not an emotion that came easily to the bear-mouse-thing creature, but even he couldn't sit emotionally as he watched one of his best students having their dreams of heroism crushed.
"Yes, Young Midoriya, we will not let this rest!" All Might reassured the poor boy, pulling him into a tight, fatherly, hug as he spoke.
Izuku sat silently throughout the entire ordeal. He was struggling to conceptualise exactly what had just happened. Shigaraki and the other were still running around Japan doing all sorts of heinous crimes, and yet the Commission had decided to focus on Izuku and his non-existent crimes? It didn't make any sense to Izuku, but, then again, when had his life ever been easy?
Thank you for reading, I anticipate that this will be updated at least once or twice a month, I hope to update it more frequently, but I just started school again. I hope you enjoyed the first chapter and have a wonderful day wherever you are.
