"New game, huh? 'Mythical Seas'? 'In one week, the Author will teleport every participant to the (very large) arena. Be aware that this may be frightening if you forget it's a game.' Eh, why not?" Everyone read the large billboard that had appeared in the middle of the Shopping District. You didn't even need to pay to sign up! Sure, nobody knew who "the Author" was, but it wouldn't be the first time a minigame was made anonymously.
By the deadline, nearly every Hermit had signed up. Everyone waited at the billboard, which had mysteriously changed to say:
'If you wish to drop out, please let me know at any time. I will be there shortly. In case you have forgotten, here are the warnings:
The game may become frightening
The game requires you to kill (not permanently) or save people
You may become a victim (please let me know if you aren't comfortable with being on any of the teams)
This game will last over a month, at least
You may opt out and just watch at any point
Thank you, and be safe!'
Several Hermits, like Doc, were very suspicious of the game. After all, none of the Hermits seemed to have made this. Those people, however, felt a bit safer when they saw Xisuma had signed up as well.
"HELLO EVERYONE!" A young voice boomed from two speakers on the large sign. Several people jumped. "Sorry! The volume was too high. Anywho, prepare for teleportation, and please don't panic."
Everyone tensed nervously. Why did they ask to not panic? Who were they? What did they just sign up for?
POOF.
"AAAA-"
A young-looking girl, dressed like a pirate, rushed forward as Grian fell over in shock.
"OH MY GOODNESS, ARE YOU OKAY?" She quickly helped him up.
Grian brushed himself off. "Um, yeah, just didn't expect that. Who're you?"
The girl quickly apologized and rushed back. "I'll answer that in a sec. Anyway, welcome to Mythical Seas! You're all probably wondering what this game is. Well, first, I need three volunteers to be Captains slash Leaders slash King or Queens of your team."
Before anyone moved, they took in the room around them. It looked as if they were on a ship, in the Captain's Quarters.
X, Grian, and Keralis stepped up after several Hermits whispered to each other cautiously. The girl smiled.
"Thank you! Okay, Xisuma, right?" She pointed at the helmeted Admin, who nodded. "Cool! You're the Captain of the Sailors. The Sailors' job is to... um... Not die. You can trade for goods on random islands across this map that took me weeks to make, and you explore a few ones too." The girl laughed and stared at the floor for a minute with a pained look on her face. "Man, I'm really tired."
She cleared her throat again. "Okay, you mind if I use some magic to make you look more... sailor-y? The helmet will stay, I won't mess with that."
Xisuma nodded hesitantly, mentally noting every word.
POOF.
"Whoa!" Xisuma stumbled backwards slightly, looking at his clothes with as much shock and awe as everyone else.
Grian cheered. "Awesome!!"
The pirate girl gave a happy smile at the small Hermit's enthusiasm. "Okay, that's it for the Sailors right now. Now, we need the reason why this game is interesting: the Siren team. They use their powers to get sailors in the water, and..." Her smile fell, hoping the Hermits wouldn't take it the wrong way. "They have to drown Sailors to get points."
Instead of getting mad, or even scared, the Hermits seemed to gain interest (Hermits + murder = good times... withScar-). Gaining confidence at this, the female pirate continued. "Later on, I'll explain the rules and such in better detail. Right now, I'm just trying to get to the basics."
She looked at Grian, who looked very interested (Grian is a bloodthirsty boi-). "You up for being the Head Siren?"
"Heck yeah! What can I do?"
"Well, going with the classic legends of Sirens, you use your song to bring humans to their doom. You'll also look like a merperson. And, people won't be super mad when you kill them."
"So, I'm good at singing and I can drown people without them being mad after they respawn? Excellent!" The red-sweatered gremlin (I mean, angel-) cheered. "Thanks- Uh.... What's your name?
"Oh! Shoot, I forgot! Before we continue, I'm CaptainMarra."
Everyone gave a small wave (or other gesture for greeting).
The pirate girl, Marra, turned to Grian again. "I would turn you into a Siren now.... But you would kinda be stuck on the floor for a little while: you'd have a tail instead of normal legs."
Grian (while trying to not burst out of excitement) nodded and walked next to Xisuma, who was fiddling with his new clothes.
Marra looked at X again. "Oh! I forgot that Sailors get swords."
POOF.
A sword in its sheath attached itself to X's belt.
"Excellent. Keralis, mind stepping up?"
Keralis curiously walked up next to Marra.
"Because you're so freaking pure, you get to be the saviour of the sailors! Also, canIpleasehugyou?!" Marra's eyes were wide and she was close to squealing. Keralis smiled and nodded. "Yay!"
After a few seconds of the purest hug (*squealing because Keralis is AWESOME*), Marra went back to business.
"Okay, so merpeople have the Freeing Song, which I'll teach to Keralis later. In the beginning, when Sirens are new and Sailors haven't been under their spell before, it'll be easy to break the connection. So, you guys get tridents to try to knock the sense into Sailors. If you don't want to hit them directly, just use the blue forks as a way to get their attention with a loud noise. With me so far?"
Everyone nodded.
"Alright. I'll explain more later. Oh, shiz, it's getting dark! Follow me. Except for you X-I-Sumy, this is your room now."
Xisuma stayed behind as Marra led the other Hermits upstairs. They were right: they were on a proper pirate ship.
"This ship hasn't been named yet, 'Suma gets the duty of dubbing this ship whatever he pleases. Down... here, there'll be a ton of hammocks, where you'll all sleep for now. Just say my name, and I'll be here in a flash. Lemme know if you need anything."
POOF.
CaptainMarra was gone.
Everyone immediately started talking as they walked down.
"How does she know us?"
"What the heck just happened?"
"What did we just sign up for?"
"THIS IS GONNA BE AWESOME!"
"Why should we trust her?"
"She said we could opt out, but does she actually mean that?"
why does nobody but Grian and Keralis trust me :')
DISCLAIMER: Death is not permanent here!!! This ain't the Hunger Games, and any of the murder jokes made aren't serious: hence the word "joke". Just wanted to clarify, in case you didn't know.
Anyways, in the next chapter there's kinda a little rant of mine that you can skip over if you want. A majority of this was prewritten ages ago, so I look at some of it and can't help but cringe a bit. XD
So, questions, thoughts, commentary, ect?
