Chapter eight,
The moonlight shone in the cloudless sky, casting over the large, abandoned mansion. From the car window, I noted the endless boarded up windows covering the only light into the decrepit structure. The grounds were unkept and overgrown with weeds covering the white stone statues plagued by green moss and worn with age and time. The place did not look habitable by any means mortal or immortal alike.
''Shall we Raina?''
I hesitated as he extended his offered hand. I looked at it as if it were a snake ready to strike.
''Come on Princess, '' Said Armand as he saw that I wouldn't budge.
I was scared, but it made me bold somehow instead of a quivering little girl. Strange how this could have possibly happened at a time like this.
''I could carry you; you know very well that I can. ''
''Fine. 'I said with bold sass that caused him to grin triumphantly. All I could do was ignore the fright and the feeling to run and scream to get away. He would like that. I climbed out of the safety of the car and balled my fist at my side instead of taking his hand. I was not going to give him the satisfaction of helping me. I tried to resist the urge to attack him right then and there. What good would that do? He was stronger than me, even faster. So, fighting him was pointless. I racked my brain for other options. I needed to formulate a plan to outsmart the killer somehow. But first I needed to figure out his plans for me. God only knows. As Armand push me from behind, which I didn't appreciate one bit, my thoughts filled up the silence that threatened swelling me up if I didn't speak. A certain doom cast its evil shadow over my soul, and I knew talking would buy me some time and if I knew this vampire at all, he loved to hear himself talk.
''So, this is the part where you pretend to be human to get me to let my guard down so you can attack me? ''
I wanted to sound sarcastic and rude unafraid of what was ahead of me, but an annoying tremble went through me to give away my true feelings. I chided myself inwardly for such a betrayal. The cold of the night seemed too thin and harsh. My breath plumped in the air as my rapid heart rate beat out of control. And I knew instinctively he could hear it as well.
''No, my sweet princess, we already played this game, and I'm finished with the façade.''
He turned to me with a grin and the moonlight shone on his eyes just before they glowed red. His perfect white teeth with fangs were bright against the shadow of the night. He turned back to the old mansion and placed a stark white hand on the knob and twisted it. The thing just snapped with little effort, breaking the lock easily.
''You haven't seen my true face yet. ''He added.
It was terrible and twisted in how he took pleasure in frightening me and causing me pain. He motioned me to enter as he held the large double doors with peeling red paint.
''You're depraved. ''
''How perceptive you are. I am indeed. ''
He pushed me forward and I stumbled to the center of the room and looked around the broken-down place that once was a palace of luxury. I shuddered as I glanced about looking for a way out only seeing cobwebs that hung like old lace quivering in the displaced air coming from the door which was closed with a slam. And with that slam sealed my fate like the cage locking me in my doom. All the furniture was covered in sheets like some old-time movie. Dust and dirt caused a harsh cough to gag me for a moment as I got used to the dank atmosphere. Through the shattered boarded up windows shadows played on the wall from the soft glow of the moonlight. Armand lit a candle for my benefit obviously because he did not need such comfort. I was surprised at this.
