Chapter 19,
"Come on my princess," Lestat said softly in my ear holding on to me, lifting me most my weight as Mac took the other side of me unnecessarily. Lestat had me just fine.
We traveled through the torch lit corridors; fire liked up the brick walls leaving black soot marks. In Lestat's arms I felt finally safe, like nothing could hurt me.
Surprisingly, we did not head toward the dungeons below. But we went to the second floor by the elevator. As soon as the doors opened, I had to squint at the bright lit hallway. This floor was something straight out of the magazine for the rich and famous. Gold trimmed red carpet with a chandelier in the center of the ceiling. Cherry mahogany tables graced the wall with expensive figurines and vases full of roses. Paintings of magnificent colors and one with an ocean beach scenery. Sadly, this reminded me of home. My island with Marius.
We moved out of the elevator and came to a stop at a chair next to the first door.
"Wait here,'' Lestat said, turning to Mac. "No one passes this point."
"You got it," nodded Mac as he took a seat on the ancient chair and smiled happily. My guess was that Mac was counting his lucky stars he was still alive.
Lestat shifted his gaze to me and ticked his chin toward the end of the great hallway. "Keep moving princess," he said as he led me by the arm again.
I followed him eager to be alone with him. When we reached the end of the hallway Lestat grasped two golden knobs and opened both doors with a flourish.
A large royal bathroom greeted me. I blinked several times and hardly could believe my eyes. It was like a dream come to life. Marble floors and walls gleamed in the soft light of the room, Cabinets and shelves with bath related things leading up to a beautiful jacuzzi tub in the center of it.
Lestat pulled me into the bathroom and promptly shut the door behind us.
"What's happening, Lestat?''
I say holding my ribs as I looked around, lusting over the cleanliness of it all. Even the shiny toilet made my heart flutter.
"Take it easy, my love," he said as he came to me and helped me over to the tub. "You are going to take a bath now. And after that I'm going to feed you a decent meal for once and then you are going to rest."
"Oh, Lestat, I can't hardly remember what the world looked like because I 've been in the dungeons for so long. Even the cleanliness and water to wash myself. I've taken for granted everything until now. It all seemed so out of reach with the endless days in the cell." My eyes welled up with tears.
"Come, now my love," Lestat moved to the tub and twisted the taps.
"How about the plan to get out of here?" I asked with a tone of impatience.
"One thing at a time," Lestat said soothingly. "Let's get you undressed."
My heart raced in my chest; breath puffed out of my parted lips. "Wait you're helping me with the bath?"
"Of course, sweet girl," Lestat came over and started to help me off with my clothes. "Don't be shy."
Not taking my eyes from his, I helped him slip off my dress. With one zip and it lay pooled at my feet. Instantly I covered my bra with my hands.
"Could you turn around please?"
"Sure, my love," He said as he turned and dumped a whole bottle of bubble bath in the warm water.
"Ok, I'm ready."
As he raised to his feet, he turned to me. "It's nice and warm," coaxed Lestat, turning to see me shiver from the coldness of the room.
