The crime scene was in an awful state. Hoffman, because of how Rigg was acting, told him to go home. You sighed as he left the scene as you and Hoffman stayed behind.
"I feel bad. All he wanted to do was save her." You said.
"He's reckless. He needs to be more careful, or he's going to get himself killed." Hoffman replied.
"Can you blame him? I'm sure you'd do the same thing if someone you cared for was in this situation." You said. Hoffman glared at you as you continued to look at the crime scene with Strahm and Perez.
Hours later, you all finally returned to the station. You yawned, going over to get some coffee from the coffee machine as Hoffman joined the Special Agents in the other room. You figured you should join them, so you followed them with hot coffee in your hand. To your surprise, you saw Rigg, who was reviewing an old video recording. It was of a woman getting interrogated.
"Look, I know I may sound crazy, but I think we need to keep looking for Matthews." Rigg said, turning to all of them. "He has to be alive!"
"What makes you say that?" Hoffman asked. You were intrigued.
"Jill Tuck. She must know something! I think she's hiding something from us. She has to know something! Please, I need to find Matthews. He has to be alive!" Rigg explained. This wasn't the answer Hoffman was looking for.
"No. If we know anything about Kerry's death, I doubt that Matthews is still alive." Hoffman replied.
"What do you mean?" Rigg asked.
"Kerry was missing for 4 days, and she was found dead. Do you really think Matthews would be alive after this long? Knowing Jigsaw, I don't think so." Hoffman added. Rigg looked at him in disbelief.
"We have to at least try! There has to be something we've missed!" Rigg insisted.
"Rigg, just go home and take some time off. This whole case is getting to you. I'll call you if there's any updates on the case." Hoffman said. Though it took some convincing, Rigg finally left the station. You were confused on everything that has just transpired, but you needed to find out more about this case, so you decided to look at what they had so far.
These whole thing was created by a man named John Kramer. The trap he makes in his so called "games" were created to supposedly test those who have been deemed ungrateful for their lives. He also had accomplices, which help him make more traps and lure those he wants to test in. It was all very strange to you. If Matthews and Kerry were targeted, who knows who could have been next.
After looking everything over, you of course had to leave and go back home. It was getting late and you had to walk home. Of course, as soon as you leave the station, it started to rain, and you didn't have an umbrella.
"Fantastic..." You mumbled to yourself as you started walking in the rain. Your apartment wasn't too far, but it was far enough. It wasn't long before a car slowed down beside you as you walked. You turned your head and the passenger window rolled down. You saw Hoffman in the drivers seat.
"Need a lift?" He asked. At first, you did nothing but stare. While it was raining, the moon was still shining. You could see half of his face from the moonlight, which in turn matched his personality, as he was still very mysterious to you.
"I'm fine on my own, thank you. Besides, I'm halfway to my apartment." You finally responded.
"Come on, just get in the car. I wouldn't want you to get sick, and you never know whose out here at night." Hoffman insisted. You sighed, shivering from the cold. You opened the car door and sat down in the passenger seat, closing the door behind you. Mark slowly started to drive again as you looked around at his car. It smelled of his cologne and was completely clean.
"Where am I going, (Y/N)?" He asked. You snapped out of your observant trance of his car and looked over at him. You told him what street you lived on. Luckily, he knew the city like the back of his hand and knew where he had to go. For a few moments, there was silence as you looked at the city lights. Thankfully, Mark wasn't one for small talk, so he didn't attempt to make conversation with you. For you though, it was awkward, since usually you'd have something to talk about. This didn't help that Hoffman kept glancing at you as well.
"So, this whole Jigsaw case... do we know who the accomplices are?" You suddenly asked. Hoffman looked over at you after asking the question out of no where.
"No, we don't, but Kerry had her suspicions before she died. She suspected a woman named Amanda Young, who was in Jigsaw traps before. Sadly, we never got anywhere with her suspicions." Hoffman explained. He then looked over at you again.
"You seem really interested in the case." He said.
"Can you blame me? This case is so mysterious and odd. I've always dreamed of being on a case like this! It's even better being with you, Hoffman." You confessed. He gave you small smile.
"Really? Why is that?" He asked.
"Well, from what I heard, you're one of the best detectives on the force. I could learn a lot from someone like you. That's why I was excited to be your partner." You explained. He kept his smile while watching the road. It wasn't long before he was parked outside your apartment building. You grabbed your bag and opened the passenger door to get out.
"Thanks, Hoffman. Do you want me to pay you or-"
"It's alright, (Y/N). But you do owe me." He interrupted. You nodded and stood up, closing the car door behind you. You waved goodbye as he reversed out of the parking lot and drove off. You sighed, being extremely exhausted. You walked into your apartment building and went to your room, where you immediately fell onto your bed and looked at the clock.
10 PM.
You didn't even bother to change out of your clothes since you were already comfortable, and quickly fell asleep.
