Chapter Three- Leaving

I arrive at the training arena around 0600. It was weird driving myself as I always rode with Tyler. I see Beta John there talking to Alpha Wyatt and Markus. It seemed to be a serious talk from what I could tell. John sees me walk in and turns to talk to me.
“hey kiara. We have another important meeting to attend to so we wont be here. One of the gammas will be supervising but with you being our most experienced, just make sure things go smoothly”
“of course” I replied. Then everyone started piling in, including Tyler and Jo holding hands and smiling.
Jo looks at me and quickly her smile fades but she doesn’t say anything. Everyone falls into formation but this time Tyler isn’t beside me and Jo isn’t behind me. Theyre in the back beside eachother.
“well isn’t this awkward for you” Melanie sneered from behind me. “your best friend and boyfriend, well
ex now. Tylers good looking and all but theres bigger fish.. like the future alpha over there”
I looked at Markus who was heading out with his father and for all intents and purposes, my “father”. The gamma, Luke I believe his name was, stood before us. He was older, probably around Beta Johns age. He looked like he’d seen his fair share of life. He directed us to begin our circuits. This time I made it a point not be in the same group as Jo. Unfortunately that meant being stuck with Melanie who quite frankly was pissing me off with her constant commentary on the two people who just two days ago were my best friend and boyfriend.
We made it to the mats where I awaited for Gamma Luke to set up our matches. Thankfully, I wasn’t in the same group so I wouldn’t have to spar with Tyler or Jo. Gamma Luke walked onto the mats and told us to pair up. I see Tyler and Jo are sparring.. more like playing as I hear nothing but giggling. If Beta John or the Alpha was here that wouldn’t fly. A wave of jealousy came over me but also a sense of responsibility. These two needed to be taking this seriously.
“Can yall actually pretend like you care about this packs safety for a minute?” I snapped. They both looked at me and got off the mats. At the moment, another warrior Brett, who just happened to be
Tylers best friend stepped onto the mats. “jealous much?” he smirked at me. “you know, now that tylers done with you, I wouldn’t mind “going a few rounds” with you” I felt the anger build up inside of me and I lost it. I gave him a right hook completely knocking him off guard. He stumbled back but quickly came
to his feet and growled, lunging at me. I grabbed him in a guillotine. What an idiot, you never expose your neck so easily. He twisted behind me and grabbed my leg to lift it, his neck still in my grasp. We fell
to the ground and I managed to get in his guard. I was so angry. Angry at him for using my hurt of tyler and jo against me, angry at him for thinking I was that kind of girl. I just kept throwing punches after punches. I hear the gamma yelling at me but I ignore him. He finally pulls me off Brett and commands me to cool off. Brett stands up and spits blood, smiling and winking at me as he walks off the mats.
“That’s enough for today. Kiara go home. Brett, youre an asshole and deserved what you got. Everyone else, go to your studies” Gamma commanded
I was walking out the door when the Gamma caught up to me.
“That was shitty what Brett said but it was also wreckless that you let your anger control you. You cant
let that happen Kiara” he said calmly and walked off. I arrived home and Emily was there waiting for me at the table.
“sit down Kiara”
“Is this about today?” I asked
“yes it is” she replied.
I sat there in silence waiting for her to say what she needed to say.
“Kiara, spring break is next week, and then your birthday after that. How about you take the rest of this
week off ,spring break and come back after your birthday. Ive talked to your brother..” This got my
attention. She paused to measure my reaction. “And ive talked to the alpha of the redwood pack. They said youre more than welcome to come stay two and a half weeks with them. How does that sound?”
I thought about it for a minute. “sounds good” I deadpanned.
“that’s it? Sounds good? No objections?”
“nope” The truth was I needed to get out of here. The two and a half weeks would be good. The next morning im awake with bags packed and ready to go. When I open the door theres Jo standing
on the other side. Shes silent for a moment before she finally breaks down saying “Kiara im going to miss you and I want you to know how sorry I am but I also need you to know that I never betrayed you. The moon goddess chose this. She chose Tyler and I. I don’t know what im saying.. I just don’t want to lose my best friend.” I stood there looking at her. She looked like she was about to cry. Finally after a
minute of silence I spoke my truth. “I get it Jo and I know you and Tyler had nothing going on behind my
back. I know this is the mate bond and that you two were chosen. Im not angry at either one of you. Its
just awkward and yeah it hurts. I lose my parents, then my brother and now my boyfriend to my best friend”. She just looked down at the ground shifting her feet.
“I have to go Jo, just give me some time to get away ok? Im not angry with you.” Jo looked up and smiled and hugged me. She is my best friend, how can I be mad at her for something she had no control
over… getting away and seeing my brother would be good though.
I arrive at the Redwood late that night. It was a 12 hour drive and I hadn’t stopped. California was nice and while it was still a little chilly I was able to take the top off of my jeep. I get to the gate and give the
guard my name and id. He smiles at me and lets me through. My brother had already arranged a guest house for me prior to my arrival. My brother had been doing well here at the redwoods serving as the pack trainer. Evidently he was putting our skills from the silver moon to good use. I finally pull up to my
cabin observing how secluded it is. This is perfect I thought. After grabbing my bags I walk in the cabin and immediately flop myself down on the bed. I didn’t even notice the surprise waiting for me.
“no hug for your favorite brother?” I heard the familiar voice. I immediately jumped up and into his arms giving him the biggest bear hug.
“how are you here?!” I squealed. “I didn’t see your truck. I didn’t even smell you! It is so good to see you!” I hugged him harder before he put me down.
“well, my wolf ran here and as for the smell, I probably smell like Alyssa” he laughed reaching up to put his hand behind his head all awkwardly.
I nudged him “uh huh I know what that means. And here I was thinking that coffee and vanilla scent was a welcoming gift for me in the cabin” I giggled.
“alright,alright” and he messed up my hair. “I wanted to welcome you first. Unpack and get some rest. The alpha and luna here want to meet you tomorrow. Don’t worry its your week to relax but they do need to know whos on their property and who this famous Kiara is” he said smugly
“oh no, what have you told them?” I asked squinting my eyes at him
He laughed “ just the truth…” he winked. “and of course that my baby sister is awesome. Come to training tomorrow and watch. Come hang out with me”
“deal” and I hugged him again. “I look forward to spending some time with Alyssa too.”
He just smiled and put his hand on the door knob. Right before he walked out he turned and said “,im happy youre here hudd, even if it is because of that dumba** ex boyfriend of yours”
I just smiled and watched him walk out. I showered and made myself comfortable in bed. My last thoughts before dozing off were how good its going to be to get away from all things sparring and boys.
This change of scenery and seeing my brother again was exactly what I needed .
