"Fuck him." Jeongguk muttered, throwing the stick he was playing with and watched it getting stuck head first in the sand.
He looked up at the sky, which was painted with streaks of red, yellow and blue, as the sun was about to go down.
He groaned. His stomach was rumbling, but he couldn't bring himself to eat without Taehyung. He looked back once, to check if the other was back yet, but he didn't see anyone.
It had been three hours since he left him there.
Taehyung was definitely pissed, and Jeongguk thought it was better to leave that annoying child back there. But, as the time passed, he got a little worried.
Why wasn't he returning?
And slowly, that affirmation, 'he loves water' was slipping out of his mind, as it was getting darker.
"Shit. I shouldn't have left him." He mumbled with a concerned frown, as he stood up, and immediately ran off towards the cabin. He felt an odd twist in his stomach. No one was there.
He made his way quickly through the trees, to reach the lake, but, his heart dropped, when he found no one.
"Taehyung?" He yelled, looking around, but all he heard was the shuffling of leaves in the gentle evening breeze.
"Taehyung!" He panted, his heart rate was rising in distress.
He muttered a series of breathless 'fuck's and ran his hands through his hair, bending forward to catch his breath.
He swallowed, standing up straight before randomly selecting a direction, and walking through the forest aimlessly, shouting the other's name. He tripped in his haste, but didn't stop searching. He looked at each and every corner where his feet took him, with only one motto.
"Taehyung..." He mumbled to himself, as his steps faltered. It had been almost an hour. A fruitless one. The sun had gone down, and it was chilly, with nothing but darkness. He couldn't see properly, only the sound of the crickets and the crunching of leaves and twigs under his foot was what could be heard.
"Fuck. It's all my fault." He swallowed the sore lump in his throat, as he squatted down cradling his head in his hands.
It was not supposed to be a big deal. Taehyung was a grown up guy. But, his fear of the dark- that kept Jeongguk on edge.
Suddenly, his ears caught faint sniffles in the distance. He looked around, trying to focus on where it came from.
"Taehyung." He mumbled to himself, before getting up and following the sounds, He hit the trees and fell down twice, but immediately rose.
He stopped in his tracks when he found Taehyung, sitting with caved shoulders and knees brought up to his chest. He was rocking himself, mumbling something unintelligible.
"Tae!" He ran up to him, kneeling in front of him and gripping his elbows.
"Fuck. Are you alright? I-I'm so sorry." Jeongguk rushed in a small voice. He was not sure what to do, because Taehyung wasn't looking at him. He was staring ahead absently, his teeth clattering as he continued mumbling and this time Jeongguk heard the chant of 'I'm fine's.
"Taehyung?" Jeongguk called a little loudly, cupping his face and forcing him to look at him. Taehyung's eyes were unfocused for a moment before they stilled on Jeongguk and he stopped mumbling.
Jeongguk sighed heavily. Under the moonlight, Taehyung's eyes glistened with unshed tears.
"Tae, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have left you." Jeongguk whispered and before he could speak anything else, he was pushed on his butt by Taehyung's weight on him.
