Prologue
Bill
Bill screamed opening his eyes. Sweat drenched his forehead and his breath was jagged. Something nudged his hand; he glanced at his beloved Espeon which was sitting close to him now. “I’m fine, Eon, nothing but a dream.”
“Umb!” Bill’s gaze shot to Ion, his Umbreon. He was staring out the dark window intently.
Bill stood and walked to the window and caught his breath at the sight. In the distance, something glowed a soft pink, the shape was difficult to make out but it seemed similar to a crescent moon. Bill stared at it for a second until it turned and glided farther away. His mind went back to his dream and he made the connection.
“Cresselia, come back!” Bill shouted. “What were you trying to show me?” It turned its yellow head to face him for a moment and blinked. She released a call that sounded like a lullaby in reply but sent no message to Bill. Cresselia looked away, continuing on its path before it vanished in a flash of light. Bill turned and looked down at Ion, scratched the Umbreon’s ear then went towards his own bed. Eon looked at him concerned. He shook his head. “I came to Unova to forget everything from then, but I think its following me here.”
“Espeon.” She cocked her head, understanding.
“I assume that was a ‘What did you dream about?” He laughed slightly at himself. Though Eon couldn’t speak he would pretend she could. “Well, truth is I’m not sure myself.” Bill shook his head. “I felt water and a human’s touch; heard thunder and a girl’s voice; and I saw fire and a boy’s face.”
“Umbre?” Ion leapt up onto the bed next to Eon. The bark turned into another voice in Bill’s head as it always did when he was thinking through a problem.
“Red? No, it wasn’t him. And it wasn’t any of the others either. They were new. It’s odd, seemed like a warning and a calling at the same time.” Bill collapsed onto the bed, and closed his eyes hoping that sleep would find him slightly more gentle this time. Just a dream, I don’t even know anyone like them.

Bill sat at his desk, puzzled. He had several books piled on his desk, hiding any wood from sight. They were different selections for him, all about the legendary pokémon from each region. He had been trying to forget the dream all day, but his mind kept going back to it. All right, Cresselia, what did you want me to know?
A pounding came from the other room. Someone was at the door, again. This was one thing he had not enjoyed about moving to Icirrus City. Even though ‘city’ was in its name, it was a small town. With small towns came annoying neighbors always asking something from you.
Bill went to the door and opened it. A boy, no older than eight, stood in front of him. Bill stared at the child in slight horror, and he ever so slightly shook his head. No, it can’t be.
The boy blinked his dark eyes and stared in wonder at Bill. “This came for you, got sent to the wrong house. Grandpa said I should bring it to you.” He held up a package that had been unwrapped. “Sorry it looks like it was opened, I opened it.”
“And why would you do that?” It took a moment for him to find his voice to form the question.
The boy shrugged and answered with a bored voice. “I was just wondering why it was so heavy. What are they about, the books in there?”
