Seri must be crazy.
Or perhaps...ambitious.
That or incredibly rash.
When she made the decision to embark on this long, treacherous journey, she became the first woman to ever do so. That was an accomplishment for any woman in town, an accomplishment that defied all stereotypical ideas about a woman's role in their society.
Deep down, Seri was incredibly proud of being seen as an equal in the eyes of Ri Jeong Hyeok. But at the same time, she was internally cursing her brazen nature for throwing her into such a journey that had its fair share of risks.
After all, who wouldn't choose comfort over pain.
Such a journey by foot was difficult to even the Captain of the royal guards who has trained under the toughest regime – judging by Captain Pyo Chi Su's frequent complaints.
They were all struggling. There were all tired. And they all wished they were back in the comforts of the palace.
It has been days. Days of trudging on towards a future that was uncertain.
In just the past five days, the royal entourage experienced the ugly side of nature; one which was unforgiving and unpredictable.
Between the sweltering heat of the afternoon sun, to the bitter icy coldness of the heavy downpours, they must have experienced every single thing nature had to offer them.
It made them miserable but they had to fight on. Yet, slowly, they were losing sight of the reason they were on this journey.
During times of such low morale, an energy booster was crucial. Sadly, the team's personal cheerleader was feeling rather low herself as she tried to shake off the biting pain shooting up from the base of her feet.
At this point, she couldn't tell what was hurting more. The blisters on her feet or her sore muscles.
Either way, everything about this journey was a recipe for pain to someone who was not used to venturing out in the wild.
To make matters worse, a certain Captain was getting on her nerves. With tension on high, every single time Pyo Chi Su opened his mouth, Seri had to hold back on pummelling him to the ground.
It would suffice to say the only thing Seri and Pyo Chi Su agreed on was the fact that they preferred each other in small amounts. Too much time together only meant they were constantly at each other's throats.
"Back in my outfield days, we didn't even have the luxury of tents. We slept on the grass even if it was wet from the rain. Oh, and one time, I had to kill a wild boar with my bare hands just so we had something to eat. The wild boar was the size of a mountain lion but I took him down in five seconds. I suppose they aren't so strong after all." Pyo Chi Su exaggerated.
Yes, they had to sleep on the ground but they only ever slept on the wet grass once.
Yes, they had to hunt but he didn't manage to kill that wild boar alone.
And that wild boar was only the size of a mountain lion in his dreams.
Seri rolled her eyes at Pyo Chi Su's tale, highly convinced that half of what he was telling them was his hallucinations or wild imagination. As with all days, Seri would never pass on such a good opportunity to call him out.
Perking up, Seri pointed convincingly at a spot near the Captain. "Ya Pyo Chi Su, isn't that a wild boar behind you? It's charging right at-"
"Ahhh! Where?!" Pyo Chi Su jumped up in fear before proceeding to hide behind Kwang Beom.
