Jett

I stepped off the elevator with a heavy sigh. I had spent the day negotiating with a new shoe company that some trust fund kids started and had the money to offer, my newest and biggest client that I had, Ronny, more money than God to do a few commercials for them. I wasn't convinced it was a good idea and they were not happy that I wanted to see what they had planned for the company and its future before advising Ronny to sign with them.

My assistant was researching, copying, and on the phone for nearly the entire day. I was going to have to give her a raise. Working hard is the best way to not just get by in this business because of who my dad was and Colt making calls. I plan to work hard and make a name for myself. This is the way. Ronny called and said he was glad to have someone working so hard for him so, it was already working.

My phone was ringing before I even had my apartment door open. I knew that it was too good to be true that I hadn't heard from my mom all day. I pulled it from my pants pocket as I shut the door. "Hi, Mom." I didn't even look at the caller ID.

I heard a man laugh on the other end before he spoke, "I am definitely not your mom, son," Colt said. I heard his wife laugh in the background. At least I knew there wasn't anything wrong with my mom or sister since they were laughing.

"Sorry, sir," I laughed.

"Haven't heard from her today?" He asked.

"No, really thought it would be her," I laughed.

"Sorry to disappoint you. Look I'm calling because I need a favor."

"Okay, anything," I told him as I walked into the kitchen. It had been a long day and a beer sounded great.

"The girls are having a party," Colt said quickly. I could almost hear a small amount of panic in his voice.

I laughed, "how do you know that?"

"The doorman at their building called me. Said a large group of kids walked in asking for their apartment." I had to laugh again because I knew that my dad would have done the same thing if he was still alive. He probably would have moved the whole family wherever the girls decided to go probably. He was overly protective of them.

"At least they are all home," I told him before taking a drink of my beer.

"Jett, this not funny. If anything happens to any of them," he paused and took a deep breath, "I am sure that Calvin is there with them, but to be honest, I'm not sure that that skinny kid can do much." I held back the laugh this time, but I defiantly agreed with him. Calvin was a good kid, but he was quiet and small. Not much of a manly man in my opinion.

Darren walked in and we nodded to each other in greeting, "What is it that you want me to do? Crash the party and kick everyone out?" I asked him.

"I want to say yes but my wife is glaring at me currently and I am not sure that answer wouldn't get me sleeping on the couch tonight," I heard him laugh, I laughed too.

"Jett," I heard Callie, his wife says suddenly, stopping my laughter. I cleared my throat. "Do not do a thing my husband tells you. I know you just started your new job and I am sure you're tired after your first week so, if you don't feel up to it, I would appreciate you stopping by just to make sure that the girls are okay and don't need anything."

"I can do that Mrs. Maddox," I told her. Darren walked out of his room and looked at me and I held up a finger to him, letting him know I wanted to talk to him.

"Thank you, Jett. I think they deserve to blow off some steam but I want to make sure they're safe too."

"I completely understand," I told her, "I wouldn't mind making sure of that at all. My sisters and even Cleo and Maddy are very important to me."
