Maddy
"What's wrong with you?" Cleo's voice broke through my thoughts. I looked up from my phone that I had been staring at for I didn't know how long.
"I'm wondering how much longer I am going to have to wait before I hear from Clark," I tell her. I know I sound pathetic, and I am not even sure why I am waiting around for some guy.
"Was he supposed to call you or something?" Kierra asks as she pours me a glass of wine. I hadn't even noticed that they had both come in with a bottle.
"No," I took the glass, downing half of it before putting it back down and looking at my friends.
"You two have a fight?" Cleo raised a brow. I shook my head. They were just pointing out all the reasons I didn't understand why he hadn't called. Nothing was wrong. That I knew of.
"It hasn't been that long since you had your cute little anniversary," Kierra pointed out, "nothing has happened since then?"
I shook my head again, picked up my glass, and drank the rest of the wine. I slid it back to Kierra so she would fill it up. "I haven't even heard from him since the next morning. Except for him canceling our plans via text," I picked the glass up when Kierra slide it back to me. Drinking before continuing, "actually, it was really weird."
"What?"
"That next morning, he was acting... different," I shrugged not knowing how to explain his actions that night. I had been thinking about it since the next morning. "Actually," I frowned, looking at my glass, "he was acting weird that night. We got to dinner and he said he wanted to meet my parents. Well, my dad at least said he thought it was time. I told him I didn't think it was time and then like that," I snapped my fingers, "he started acting differently."
"So, it might not be because you went with Jett to that party?" Cleo said.
I looked at her and shook my head again, "I actually haven't talked to him to even tell him I went." Unless he somehow heard about it, I knew that couldn't be it.
"Jett stopped by to talk to you by the way," Kierra told me.
"What? Why?"
"I don't know," she shrugged, "he wouldn't tell me. All he said was that it was personal and private. Did anything happen between you guys that night?" The smirk on her face tells me she hopes that it did.
"You do know that Jett's your brother, right?" I scrunch up my face.
"So, I think you two would be cute together."
"I'm seeing Clark," I remind her. I avoid telling her about us kissing. She didn't need the encouragement. "It's weird that he wanted to talk to me though. I mean, we had a nice time at the party, but still."
"I thought it was a little weird considering you two have hated each other since high school."
"I don't hate your brother," I tell her with conviction. "We just went different directions in high school."
"Well, maybe he started liking you after your date," Cleo suggests, with the same smirk Kierra had on her face.
I shake my head, placing it in my hands, "No. No way. It wasn't even a date."
"Sure, sure," she takes my glass and drinks the rest of my wine.
"I need to figure out what is going on with Clark," I remind them both of the important conversation we were having.
"You said he canceled plans..." Cleo started but trailed off.
"Yeah. We were supposed to go out with his friends and their girlfriends, like a group date thing, but then he texts me and said that all the guys decided they wanted to just have a guy's night. He made plans for a few nights later than he texts an hour before he was supposed to pick me up saying he had a paper he had to write. I don't get why he even makes plans if he is just going to break them. And if he isn't that into me then why bother with any of it?" I let out a frustrated sound that was a mixture of a sigh and a growl.
