Jett
The beginning of the next week was rough at work so, I text Darren on Wednesday and asked if he was down for drinks and a couple of games of pool after work. After a series of "hell yeses" and him asking me if I would be his wingman if he was mine? We agreed to meet at home so we could both change before heading to the bar down the street from our place, Mc'Friggins.
"You never gave me any details about your date?" He said after taking a swig of beer. I was racking the balls but paused to glare at him. "Don't give me that look."
"No details to tell," I told him, standing up and walking to the wall that held the sticks. I grabbed one and tried to avoid his probing by checking to see how straight it was in every way I could think.
"Fine," Darren sighed as he set the cue ball down and started lining up his shot. "Don't tell me anything. I will just have to get a hole of one of your sisters to tell me. Maybe over lunch. I know how much women love lunch." He looked at me and he pulled his hand back, wink then hit the cue and sent two stripes in.
"Stay away from them," I warned. I chalked my stick then walked around the table looking for the best shot.
An hour later, Darren had won because I scratched on the eight ball. As I racked them again, he went to get us more beers. Bought by me because I lost.
"Hey, isn't that Maddy's boy, Clark?" I heard him say as I lifted the rack from the balls. I tried to follow the direction he seemed to be pointing in, though it was hard to tell exactly since the beer bottles were in his hands.
I finally spotted who he was talking about and..., "Yeah that's him," I sighed. I watched as Clark put his arm around the shoulders of a girl that was not Maddy. He whispered in her ear causing her to giggle. What his charm was, I had no clue, but for some reason, girls liked him.
"I thought he was dating Maddy?" He questioned me.
"Well, she sure thinks he is," I sighed, running my hand through my hair and over my face.
"What does that mean?" Darren was looking at me now.
"We kissed." It felt kind of good to let that out. I hadn't planned to tell anyone not even Darren, figuring that Maddy would want that. She had seemed horrified that she did that.
"Why the hell didn't you tell me?" He shouted at me drawing attention. Not Clarks though thankfully.
"It wasn't really my proudest moment, Darren," I glared at him before looking back at Clark wondering if I should go and confront him or not.
"Well then, maybe that's his sister?" As he said the words, I already felt like they weren't true. Which was confirmed when he started making out with the girl. "Never mind. Doesn't matter of she is," Darren said. I could hear the shudder in his voice, "Maddy doesn't need any of that backwoods kind of stuff in her life." I couldn't help but laugh. I think we both knew that she was not Clark's sister. Hell, we both knew that he didn't even have one.
I ran my hand over my face, "Why'd I have to see this?" I groaned.
"You planning to tell her?"
"I don't know how..."
"You say hey, Maddy your boyfriend was making out with a chick that wasn't you at the bar the other night. Can I take you out?"
I turned away from watching Clark and his "friend" to glare at Darren. "Not funny." Darren thought otherwise obviously because he was chuckling. "Besides, I meant that she isn't returning any of my calls or texts. Not since she went to the party with me."
"And you kissed her," Darren added for me. I sighed. "Well, kiss aside, you have to try harder. It is your job to watch out for her right?"
"Yeah," I sigh as I pull my phone from my pocket.
"Make sure the flash is off first," he tells me.
I roll my eyes at him and look back down at my phone, "I'm not taking a picture. I'm texting Maddy." I send her a text telling her that I need to talk to her and that it is important before putting my phone away. "Break them," I tell Darren motioning toward the table.
When we were done playing or more like, Darren was done eating me over and over, we headed back to our place. "Did she reply yet?" He asked me as we walked in and I checked my phone for the tenth time since I sent her the text.
I shook my head, "I guess I will go over to their apartment and try to get her to talk to me in the morning." I sat on the couch and ran my hands through my hair. I honestly wasn't sure that she would believe me.
The next morning, I knocked on the door to the girl's apartment. Kierra answered and moved out of the way for me to enter without seeing anything. I was on my way to work so, it was early at least for her. She isn't a morning person. I laughed at her slow movement to the kitchen. "Why are you here so early?"
I laughed harder, "It's 8 am. I'm actually going to be getting to the office later than I like," I told my sister who was banging around the kitchen as she made coffee. "Trying to wake the rest of your roommates?"
"Cleo's already gone. She had a meeting this morning and told me she would be heading to the gym before," she sighed.
"What about Maddy?" I asked clearing my throat.
Kierra smirked at me, "Why?"
"It's personal and important," I told her firmly.
"Eww," she scrunched her face up, "but I'm happy for you two. Kierra had something at seven this morning then classes all day." She was still smirking causing me to groan.
"It's not like that," I told her.
"Sure," she says as she turns around to pour herself some coffee. I sighed but decided not to argue with her anymore. I turned around, sent a goodbye over my shoulder, then left.
When I got to my office later, I had a message from the Dash Water people, telling me they already had Ronny's first shoot set up so, I called him to tell him the news.
"That's great," he said after I told him. "Any way you'll be bringing your girl? Priscilla's coming and she loves that girl."
"We are just friends," I tell him.
"I don't buy it," Ronny scoffs, "there was something even if it was just a tiny spark, between you two." One date and everyone around us was seeing things.
I ran my free hand through my hair and down my face, "I will see you at the shoot this weekend," I told him before he could say more. I could hear him chuckling though, as I hung up.
