Maddy
"You have to wear this," Kierra smiles at me. The dress she is holding, I am not even sure you can call it a dress. It looks short enough to be a shirt.
"No way!" I am shocked she even thought I would say yes to that.
"But..." I hold up my hand and look at Cleo.
"She needs to be classy tonight," Cleo saves me. Kierra looks offended so she lays a hand on her shoulder, "I just mean. He is taking her to dinner and a movie. She is not putting out tonight."
"Why did I ask you two to help me again?" I am really questioning my thought process. I know that I was nervous when Clark called yesterday and asked me. It had been a week since the party, and I had figured he wasn't ever going to call. He told me that he had been so busy with football practice and had to go to a few Mayor-type events for his dad that he hadn't had a chance but that he really wanted to see me again. Cleo had calmed me down, so I didn't just shout, "yes!" And look desperate. I agreed after pretending I was trying to remember if I was busy. He would be here in an hour and I got out of my study group late, so I asked them to help me quickly.
"Just go shower," Cleo told, "I will have a dress on your bed." I nodded and headed into my bathroom to shower.
When I came out of the shower, I smiled at the dress on my bed. It was one of my favorites of Cleo's. The floral design on the pencil dress was my favorite flowers, orchids. It made me feel pretty but it was not like the older prints that I remember my great grandmother, Maylee, wearing to church when I was little. The plunging neckline wasn't as dramatic as most that Kierra wore or there would be no way that I would even think to wear it, first date or not.
The girls knocked on the door as I pulled the dress over my head. "Good, you're dressed," Cleo said as she pushed into my room. "Hair?" She turned to Kierra for her opinion.
"High pony? She looks classy with it that way," Kierra gave a little eye roll as she threw Cleo's words from earlier at her and I laughed.
"I agree," Cleo turned to me with a smile, ignoring Kierra's tone toward her.
"Girls," I warned. They both brushed the conversation as they walked toward me. Each grabbed an arm and pulled me into the bathroom.
"Sit," Cleo pointed to my vanity bench at the end of the bathroom counter. I did as I was told and they got started. One on hair and the other on make-up. I didn't really need that much help but they both liked doing these types of things. It also gave us bonding time which I loved.
"So, I have been asking around about Clark," Kierra started as she looked at my reflection in the mirror.
"And?" Cleo said then told me to close my eyes so she could rub something on my face. I didn't pay attention to what it was because I knew she knew what she was doing.
"And he is captain of the football team," she ran her hands through my hair, "quarterback," she added. I already knew that.
"What else?"
"Well, you know he is the Mayor's oldest son. Um..." her voice dropped off and I hoped it wasn't horrible. Cleo had stopped what she was doing, so I opened my eyes and looked at Kierra. She didn't want to say whatever it was that she heard.
"Kierra," Cleo urged her.
She huffed and looked at me, biting her lip. "He used to have a bit of a rep."
I shrugged, "Used to? So, he doesn't anymore?"
"Apparently. I mean I only heard about it once. The girl kind of sounded a little... jaded?"
