Maddy

I was slipping my diamond studs in my ears when I heard the faint sound of a knock. Jett was here. I attached the back to the last earring and took a deep breath while shaking out my arms. I looked at myself in the mirror. The Marilyn Monroe-inspired dress that Cleo had told me would look amazing, did just that but I wasn't sure that it wasn't too much.

"Maddy, Jett is here," I heard Kierra say through my door.

"Okay," I called out. Too late to change now.

I smoothed my hand over my hair which was pulled back into a bun. Cleo had braided the hair that wrapped around it. It helped show off the way the dress wrapped around my neck like a choker. I swayed from side to side, watching to make sure that when I moved, my panties didn't show. I was good.

Grabbing my clutch from my bed, I walked to the door. Before pulling it open, I reminded myself that Jett used to be my friend. My best friend and I were doing him a favor. This was not a real date so there was no reason to be nervous.

I walked out of the hallway to find Cleo and Kierra standing in front of a gorgeous-looking Jett. The suit was black. Tailored to fit him perfectly. The fabric hugged his broad shoulders. The waist looked like it was laying perfectly against him with just the right amount of movement. The white shirt that he was wearing underneath had the first two buttons undone, showing just enough of his chest to get your imagination running. I had seen him in a suit before of course. He had been in one when he came over earlier but this one, this one was the same one he had worn to his father's funeral. I knew it the minute Cleo stepped away from him to turn and look at me. The only thing missing tonight was the black-tie he had worn with it that day. My imagination went somewhere else suddenly.

"You look great, Maddy." I knew that Cleo or Kierra were talking to me, but I wasn't paying attention to them. I was watching Jett instead.

"I agree," he said. I think anyway. I honestly didn't hear anything, except the rushing sound of waves in my ears. My mind was turning with ways that I could make this night special for him and the thoughts were not that of a friend. My imagination was back.

"Maddy," I felt Kierra's hand on my elbow. It snapped out of my thoughts and looked at her.

"Sorry," I knew I was blushing. I just hoped that Kierra didn't know why. She didn't need to know that I had thoughts like that about her brother.

Kierra laughed, "I know my brother looks good," she put a hand on one of his shoulders. A smile on her face, "but, not that good."

"Thanks, Kierra," Jett rolled his eyes. "Maddy does look that good though," he said. His eyes raked up and down and back up again.

"Thank you," I smiled. I told myself to pull it together. To get the thoughts that were running through my head out of my mind. I was dating Clark and Jett was on the way to being a friend again. Or at the very least he was my friend's brother. "Should we go?" I forced myself to say without giving away the fact that I was having a hard time breathing.

"Yeah," Jett said offering me his elbow. The girls giggled, but I felt my hand shaking as I reached out to loop my arm around it. "I'll try and have her back early," he smiled at his sister and Cleo.

"Or don't," Cleo shrugged. I clenched my jaw and widened my eyes at her in warning. She just smiled at me as she made her way to the door and opened it for us. I was going to get her back for that comment. She possibly is the only one that knew how I had felt about him when we were kids. If she thought she was playing matchmaker, she was insane.

Jett was a complete gentleman as I knew he would be. His dad had taught him right and he knew how to treat a woman. He opened the door to the car that he had gotten for us when we got downstairs. He opened it again when we arrived at the building where the party was.
