DAMIANO DAVID

The dinner table felt lonely, it was quiet and it was obvious that something, or rather someone, was missing.

Dinner had started over forty-five minutes ago and Valencia had yet to turn up and show her face and sit down with us to eat a meal.

Worry was somewhat etched into me as I wondered where she could be, especially since she had earlier that morning rushed out of her interview - her usual glowy and rosy skin then a sick pale color.

"You think she'll be down soon?" Thomas voice asks as he stares at her empty seat besides him, a frown upon his face.

"I hope so, I kinda miss her."

"What if she saw when Hurricane was here earlier and thought her seat wasn't available?" Victoria suddenly pipes in and snaps her glance towards me while she chews on the inside of her cheek worriedly.

I click my tongue and lean back in my chair, secretly praying to the gods that Valencia hadn't seen the uncomfortable embrace that Sanja had held me in.

Not to be mistaken, Sanja's a lovely girl but she was also rather clingy and very chatty - not being able to notice when the recipient wasn't open for it.

"I don't think she would walk off just because of that... right?"

The hotel room was filled with the low tunes of Pink Floyd as the lights were dimmed. On one of the beds Ethan was sat with his drumsticks, slightly drumming them on the tops of his knees to the beat of the song.

On the balcony was Thomas, looking over the city line, a cigarette placed between his fingers - every now and then placing it between his lips as he let out a cloud of smoke. Meanwhile Victoria was sat by one of the windows playing around with her bass, every now and then joining in to play the song on the speaker.

I was sat on the couch in the middle of the room, studying the ceiling as I slightly bobbed my head to the song. The atmosphere was overall cozy and welcoming, a calm that didn't have a storm after it.

But once again something was missing, perhaps it was once again someone rather than something. A special blonde girl who should invoice the whole world whenever she laughed.
All of us were aware of the missing piece, all of us aware of the feeling of something missing as we didn't have someone to go on late night adventures on. Someone to teach us Spanish or lead us to abandoned soccer fields to play a muddy game of ball.

Valencia had quickly come into our lives and even though it might seem exaggerated, we could only hope she wouldn't be quick to leave.
