Chapter 7

It had been a week since Zach had left Emmy without an explanation in that iHop. He had dodged her calls and texts, he'd even stooped so low that he'd roped poor Wendy into lying about where he was. Last Wednesday he had gotten an angry voice mail form Paul for standing Emmy up at junior's, warning him that if he did it again, Rory would come around and teach him a lesson. He'd laughed it off, but now he was sitting with a fat lip and the starts of a black eye and he was wishing he really hadn't. Rory was like Emmy's big brother, so of cause Zach should have known that he would come down he and make good and Paul's threat. A soft knock came from his door and he looked up, he really wished it was Emmy, but no such luck, it was Ms Moretta. Zach hadn't realised the time, he had a meeting with her. He was in the middle of organising a very important merger between Ms Moretta's company and that of her biggest competitors. It was taking much longer than it should, but he was starting to think he was about to close with a bigger win than he ever dreamed possible.

"Zach they have arrived, are you ready to... Oh god what happened to your face?" She exclaimed.

"My sort of ex-girlfriend's sort of big brother's fist," Zach replied with a half-smile, taking the ice off of his eye, blinking a bit as he started to get it to move.

"That made no sense," Nichole replied, shaking her head at him, as she examined his face more closely.

"I broke up with a girl I went on a couple of dates with recently, and her gay best friend, who's like her big brother explained I can't dump anyone without an explanation. He did it very well actually, considering he didn't use a single word. Now let's go make you even richer and get me a massive bonus," Zach grinned at her. She jumped up and down, clapping at the thought. Anyone who saw this would think she was just some blonde bimbo who'd inherited the company, just without the being blonde. In actual fact she was a smart ruthless business woman, who'd worked her way up the company and when it had landed in finical trouble, brought it out, turned it around and was now about to do the same, when this merger had finally gone though.

"Hey Nichole, would you like to go out this Saturday?" Zach asked as they left his office.

"I thought you'd never ask, oh and call me Nicki," she purred in response, and walked into the board room.

Zach stood as Nicki was shown to his table. He'd told Nicki he would met her at his usual first date place at 8, it was now 8:20 and she had just arrived. Zach liked to meet his dates at the restaurant that why he could gauge what type of person they are, since Nicki was so late he could safely assume it was intentional. Therefore she was most likely egotistical and a bit narcissistic, in her mind she was very important, and he can just wait for her.

"So sorry I'm late, I had to swing by the office there were some issues with..." Nicki stopped herself, "I don't want to talk business, I do that with you enough as it, how was your day?"

'Maybe my little test failed for once,' Zach mused, Nicki seemed truly sorry for how late she was, and flustered like she'd been running around trying to get everything in order.

"I would tell you, but you said no business and my only news is about the merge," Zach smiled.

"Well save it for tomorrow," Nicki looked at the menu she had just been handed, she scowled down at it.

'Probably counting how many calories she could eat,' Zach thought.

"Erm...what do you recommend," Nicki said as the waitress stood waiting to take there order. "Can you give us a minute," Nicki asked the waitress politely, she bobbed her head and left.
