Sergio

Another short chapter because I still don't have internet.

Emily's POV

Henry is still having a hard time with everything, he's refusing to go to school or leave our sides. I've thought about getting him a pet so he can try to focus on other things, rather than be 100% dependent on us. I join JJ on the couch with a glass of wine for the both of us. We finally got Henry to sleep although he's still in our bed.
"We should get Henry a pet" I tell JJ.
"No dogs, snakes, or spiders" She says firmly. I understand the last two, but why no dogs?
"No dogs?" I question,
"Tobias Hankel" She states, not explaining further, not that she has to. She was attacked by crazy dogs in that case, I understand her not being able to trust them anymore.
"What about a cat? Easy maintenance and Henry can even tend to it. Feed it in the morning and evening. It won't necessarily miss us when were on cases too"
"Guess we're buying a cat" JJ smiles, leaning her head on my shoulder and handing me her wine glass to sit on the side table.
"Let's get you to bed missy" I stand us, holding my hands out to help pull her off the couch.
"You carry me? Please" I let out a long breath and picked her up, she wrapped her legs around my waist and her arms around my neck.
"Thank you love" JJ says as I lay her on the bed. Henry immediately senses her presence and cuddles her. I lay on the other side of the bed and hold my small family until sleep takes over us.

It's the next day (Saturday) JJ and I convinced Henry to hang out with Pen for a while, well we didn't convince him, he cried as we left and wasn't happy with Pen because she set him up. We wanted to surprise him with a cat, we weren't really sure if he was ready to go back into public feeling safe.

Speaking of feeling safe, we caught and arrested the assholes who robbed us. We got all our stuff back, except Henry's mental stability, but over time it will come back... I think....I hope.

JJ brings me out of my thoughts, gesturing to a small white cat.
"Oooo what about this one".
"Meh, let's keep looking"
"What wrong with it, its cute"
"Jennifer, it looks like it wants to kill you, and Henry would find some way to color the white cat with markers or something" I walk over to a small black and white cat, it looks friendly and is at a reasonable price.
"Babe, what about this one?" I point to the cat I'm looking at.
"I thought black cats had bad luck?" JJ says
"It's not all black, and we can't get anymore bad luck, it's literally impossible at this point"
"Ok, black and white cat it is"

We make the purchase along with all its needs, cat toys, food, and a litter box
"What should we name it? Or are we gonna let Henry name it after some random superhero?"
JJ laughs as she asks me.
"What about Sergio? We've never had a case about a Sergio" I say while keeping my eyes on the road.
"That's a nice name, where did you get it from?"
"A childhood friend that I never got to see grow up" Boom, ruined the mood, I seem to do that often.
"Well I think it fits our cat well, whatcha think Sergio, you like it?" The cat meows at JJ's question, making us both laugh.

We made it to the house and brought everything inside, Garcia texted me that she was outback with Henry, she wanted it to be special for Henry as well.

JJ's POV

We called Henry into the living room after we had set everything up for the cat. Garcia covered his eyes and walked him to us.
"Open your eyes monkey," Emilys tells him. His face is priceless when he sees the cat. That's the first time I think I've seen him smile since the incident.
"WOW! A kitty cat, what's its name? Is it ours? Can we keep it?" He spits his words out fast, excitement taking over him.
"One question at a time bub. His name is Sergio and he is your kitty so you have to take good care of him so he stays happy" I explain to him.
"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" He gives Em and I a hug as he thanks us.

Sergio is truly a godsend, Henry is getting better every single day, he started to separate from us and be on his own for a longer time and he's started to sleep with Sergio in his own bed. He keeps him well fed and even cleaned out his litter box once. He plays with him and gave me loads of treats, we had to limit him to 3 treats a day or else he would get the cat fat.

We're gonna try to send Henry to school today and see how it goes. It didn't take as much convincing as we thought but I can tell he's still hesitant on leaving us. We agreed with him that he only had to go for half of the day, it's just preschool so it's not a big deal either way.

We got Henry to school and he cried once we left but the teacher said she would keep me updated if anything happened. Around 12 Em went to pick Henry up and grab us  lunch, I was just gonna make Henry stay in Emily or Pen's office until we finished work for the day.

"How was school monkey?" I asked Henry once he came into the bullpen with his bag and a french fry in his hand.
"It was fun but I wanna see Sergio, can we go home and play with him?"
"Not yet bub, we gotta wait until work is over, then we can play with Sergio"
"Fiiiinnee" He lets out a long breath while talking, he definitely gets that from Emily.

Within the next couple of weeks Henry started returning back to his usual self, he's going to school full time and is not afraid of going into public anymore, at least not 100% afraid that is.

I don't think this will affect Henry as he grows, but I do think the cat will. In a good way I mean.
