Although I was a bit flustered from what happened earlier, I came to the race track with a confident face. In the line, I saw Mirage, Pathfinder, Wraith, and Revenant."Hey, (Y/N)! We're just about to race. Are you going to join us?" Pathfinder asked.
"Of course!" I said happily. I smiled to Mirage but no reaction. I haven't seen him all day; I wonder why he's being like that.
"You guys ready?" The employee asked.
We all nodded in unison and got into our karts. Wraith and I sat in the front row, with Mirage and Pathfinder behind. Revenant was in the back, getting his seat adjusted since he was too tall.
"Hey Wraith! What have you done so far?" I asked to fill the silence.
"Just walking around. Met up with Pathfinder and Mirage. Pathfinder forced us here." She looked down at her seat.
"Haha, sounds like him." She chuckled in response and sighed shortly after. Things felt... awkward between us. Ever since I took care of Mirage, she's been so cold to me. But, I couldn't think about that right now. I had a race to win!
"Aaaaaaaaalllrightyyy guys! Are you racers ready to hit the gas?" The announcer hyped us up. "On your marks, three, two, one, GO!"
I stomped my foot on the pedal and began turning the corner. Wraith still on my side terrified me. I couldn't get distracted by that. I kept going ahead. These turns were short and unexpected at times. The course changed every ten seconds as well, so that was very difficult. I also remember overhearing that we could turbo-boost! But, we only had one chance to do so. I was going to save my boost until the very end.
As I was driving smoothly, the open course turned into tight roads. The sounds of metal scratching against each other and karts coming to a hard stop filled the area. I looked behind for a second, being met with Revenant tailgating me.
"Hey, skinsuit." He stared into my soul. I quietly gasped and put my eyes back onto the race track. I could feel him inching closer and closer. Luckily, we had one more round after this one, so, I could still win if I played this safe.
The course changed again, but nothing too crazy. Revenant was basically sniffing me by how close he was. It was only a few more feet until we reached the finish line. I sighed a breath of relief as I was about to drive across the line. Revenant had for some reason moved further and further away from me. Maybe because he realized he couldn't win! I felt very safe and secure in my spot as number one.
Suddenly, a loud noise pierced my eardrums. From what I could hear, it was coming from behind me. A fast and bright moving thing flashed right beside me.
After my ears stopped ringing and my eyes stopped flashing colors, I realized that Revenant had used his boost. He was too far for me to catch up using a boost, so I stayed behind and tried to get as close as I could to him. The other three weren't really a threat to me anymore. They had use their boost to get close to my position, but they weren't successful. They were still some distance behind. Looking ahead, I saw Revenant effortlessly leading.
The course changed and I could see that it caught Revenant off guard. I now know what I have to do in order to win...
I continued my pace; watching Revenant, keeping the other three behind. I made sure to keep an eye on the course and how I could force my way into number one.
The race track changed into slopes and curves and twists. Revenant hesitantly drove on them, but kept his speed. We were again nearing the finish line.
The roles had changed; I was now close behind and he now had to be cautious of his actions. Several feet before the finish line, the course changed. It was now only two lanes. I merged onto the other side, right across from that simulacrum.
"Later, Rev." I winked at him and hit the boost.
I reached the finish line and confetti exploded everywhere. Everyone parked their karts and got out.
"Nice one, (Y/N)! High five!" Pathfinder raised his hand. I high fived him and looked towards Mirage and Wraith.
"That was fun!" I said to them.
"Yeah, it was pretty fun." Wraith responded with a small smile. Mirage looked at the ground quietly.
"What about you, Mirage?" I asked, trying to brighten the mood.
"Hm? Yeah." He quietly mumbled. I think I'll ask him what's wrong in the drop ship later tonight. I left the scene and walked to the second place simulacrum.
"Wow, Revenant! I think I deserve something for beating you twice. Wanna treat me to ice cream?" I playfully shoved him.
"Why not? I'll make sure to poison it too." He said, walking towards the food area.
"Whatever, whatever. I'll take chocolate ice cream!" I went to the bathroom to check my phone. I saw 6 new messages from an unknown number.

What the heck... I hope this isn't who I think it is. I ran out of the bathroom, only to bump into Wraith.
"Oh, sorry." I said, covering my teary eyes.
"Hey, hey. Are you alright? What's wrong?" Wraith took me by my shoulders.
"I-I just... I think I'm getting stalked. An unknown number texted me a-and I-I..." I broke down in tears.
"An unknown number..? Crypto probably knows how to deal with something like this. You wanna talk to him?"
"Mm m... " I shook my head. and cried into her chest.
"It's okay..." She rubbed my back and hugged me tightly.
I let go, not wanting to make her uncomfortable, "Thanks, Renee."
"Of course. Is there anything else you want to talk about?" She asked me.
"No... but if there's anything wrong I'll come to you. I'm sure I'll be okay. I think I was just overthinking."
"Alright. Be careful." She went into one of the stalls and I left the bathroom. I hope my ice cream is ready by now. Maybe poison won't be too bad in this case.
