*Lucas's point of view*
"You really should learn how to do your own math homework, I won't always be around to do it for you."
"Ah Hales, you're not going anywhere, anytime soon."
"I could be going places Luke."
"Haley, you love to tutor, so doing my math is kind of the same thing wouldn't you say?"
She laughed sarcastically, "It is one thing to teach you how to do and a complete other thing to do it for you."
"Whatever smartie-pants, are you going to the Rivercourt later?"
"I'll be there after my shift at the cafe."
"See you later then," I shut my locker and started off to my next class. I only had a couple classes with Haley each day, like I said, she's way too smart for the average level sophomore classes. I walked along and slumped into my desk. The bell rang and class started, and to no one's great surprise, Nathan walked in ten minutes after the bell. He sauntered in and took the desk in front of me.
"Hello Mr. Scott, do you have a pass?" The teacher asked irritated because of the interruption.
He shook his head, "Nope, sorry."
"And may I ask what you were doing that was more important than the first ten minutes of my class?"
"I'd tell you, but I don't think that you wanna know." He smirked and a few people laughed. Peyton, however, was not amused.
"Where were you?" I heard Peyton whisper, she sounded angry.
"Relax would you? Why do you care where I was?"
I heard a barely audible groan followed by a rushed whisper, "You're such a jerk sometimes. This conversation isn't over."
"Whatever Peyton."
I often heard fights like this and it made me feel bad for Peyton. He just didn't understand her. I knew that if I ever actually talked to her, I would actually listen. I sighed, then smiled. I could practically hear Haley making fun of me for my oh so optimistic thoughts about how perfect Peyton is.
I don't know where my thoughts drifted after that, but the next thing I knew, I was on my way back to my locker. My last two classes dragged on and on until the bell finally rang and I was on my way to my mom's cafe, basketball in hand as usual. I walked in and Haley was already there.
"How do you get here so fast?"
"Oh, sometimes the secretaries in the office let me leave early if I have a shift right after school," she laughed, "How did you think I got here so fast? Superpowers?"
"Hey, don't laugh, anything is possible." I mocked a serious face and made her laugh.
She smirked, "When are you going to the court?"
"I'll wait until your shift is over, I actually have some English homework to work on."
"Oh so you can do your English homework but not your math?"
"There's a huge difference, I speak English, not numbers. And get to work," I laughed and grabbed a cup of coffee from behind the counter.
I was soon lost in my own world, working on the only subject in school that I actually enjoyed.
