Any other kid in the world would be jumping up and down after seeing serval superheroes standing in front of them, but I just stood staring at the ground, playing with my nails. "Is she ok?" a male voice asked. I didn't look to see though.

"She's..." Mr. Stark said. "Adjusting. Natasha, can you show her around, please? I think she would get more comfortable with a female face."

"Of course." A female voice said. A soft hand patted me on the back. I looked up at the woman to reveal my tear-stained cheeks. She had short red-orange hair and a warm smile. "C'mon honey."

I followed Natasha as she showed me around the base. She told me what all the confusing-looking machines were, only just to make them a little less confusing. I tried my hardest not to gape at the amazing technology, but I failed within 2 minutes. Natasha looked at me and smiled. Mr. Stark was right; she did make me feel comfortable.

"So, what do you like to do?" She asked.

I shrugged. "I mean, I guess I used to like to play video games and eat hot Cheetos all day. But I don't think that can happen anymore."

Natasha pursed her lips. "I'm really sorry Kaitlyn."

"Can you explain everything to me? I'm still completely confused."

Natasha slowed to a stop, I stopped with her. "It's kind of a long story. Do you like coffee?"

I took a sip of my black coffee Natasha had bought me from the S.H.E.I.L.D cafe.

She sighed. "I guess you want answers, huh?"

I nodded.

"Well, I'll give you the short version. You're not from Earth. Well not this Earth anyway, Earth dash 226 to be exact. We still aren't sure how you got here in the first place, but we know you were young. Someone must've found you and put you at the adoption center. So, your parents had adopted you, but they never told you. The carbon from the Earth gives you these abilities, beyond our comprehension. As far as we know, you may be the most powerful organism on the planet. If not the universe."

I scratched at my coffee holder, still digesting all of this information. The parents I've had all my life, weren't mine? How was I found then? And how was I the most powerful thing in the world? Natasha put her hand on mine. "I know it's a lot to take in. But I hope you understand why we can't let someone with so much power not be under surveillance, especially if that person is still a minor."

How could I have not noticed this before? The lights flickering every time I got angry or upset? I understood now, and yet I still had so many questions. Then I realized, they have been watching me. That's how Mr. Stark knew about Times Square. "How long...how long have you've been watching me for?"

"Since you were about 5. I've fought crime all my life, so had Tony and everyone else, but we had never seen anyone as extraordinary as you."

"How did you know exactly when to take me when I was in the hospital?"

"We have a radar on one of our computers, it tracks your energy level. The reason why we never took you before was that your level stayed under a certain amount, but suddenly it was like some kind of energy burst and we knew we couldn't keep you out anymore."

Wait, could that have been when I had my nightmare? I figured that if these people knew so much about this supernatural stuff, they might know what that dream—nightmare—I had was. "3 weeks ago, I had this strange thing happen to me. It was like...a nightmare."

Natasha looked at me with sudden curiosity. "Can you elaborate? If you feel comfortable, of course."

I nodded, even though I didn't feel comfortable. "I woke up, and there was just a void of nothing around me. The only thing I had was the solid ground I was sitting on. Then there was this woman, she was old. I asked her where I was, and she told me I was home."

Natasha mumbled, "Home?"

"Then she started weirdly touching my face. It was calm at first, then I felt this pain. Like the worst pain in my entire life. My parents told me the doctors said it was because a blood vessel burst, but I'm not sure about that."

Natasha nodded and suddenly, she looked like a lightbulb had gone off in her head. "Now that you're saying this, I think that was the energy burst I was talking about. Whoever that woman was, she must've ignited some kind of power in you. I don't think that was a nightmare, maybe some kind of vision where you can touch and feel."

Alright, let's do a recap. My parents aren't my real parents, I'm adopted. My real parents are aliens. I'm an alien. I might be the most powerful person in the universe. And I'm forced to stay with a whole bunch of superheroes.

Okay, I feel better now.

Now for the million-dollar question.

"What are you going to do to me here?"

"You don't have to be afraid Kaitlyn. We are just here to protect you from the outside world, and we're going to train you so you can use your abilities effectively. We actually have someone here that's almost like you, her name is Carol Danvers, she's sweet."

I nodded. I felt sick, almost like I was going to puke all my coffee back up. I still wanted to see my parents. I wanted to see my friends. I wanted to have a life, not get stuck in a government base until I was older.

I sighed. "Ready to see your room?" Natasha asked.

Oh right. I shrugged my shoulders. I had to edit my plan. I would only talk to Natasha and whoever this "Carol" lady is. But anybody else, especially Mr. Stark, I would not talk to.
