Reps with Asahi were becoming a normal occurrence at this point. His encouragement was helpful to you as you attempted to learn as many skills as you could before prelims, and you could tell that it was nice for him to have someone by his side for his own reps.

You were easily comfortable with him despite your own awkwardness. Maybe it was because he was clearly somewhat awkward himself, but you were always able to joke around with him and laugh easily. He didn't make you feel self conscious like every other boy did, it all felt so different.

"Come at me!" you said, staring him down from the other end of the court. He was getting ready to send another serve and you decided to attempt to receive it.

"I don't want to hurt you, (y/n)," he said.

"You say that like I'm weak," you said, propping your hands onto your hips. "Now fire away, ace!"

"Okay, fine, ace," he said back as you giggled a bit and readied your platform for a receive.

It came flying at you at the speed you had gotten used to seeing at the other side of the court, but it was still much scarier with it flying directly towards you. You managed to get behind it, but hardly took away enough momentum for it to mean anything. It ricocheted off of your arms and into the wall behind you. "Dammit! Why are boys so strong?" You asked into the air as you ran off to get the ball before it bounced out of the doors.

You could hear Asahi laughing a bit behind you. You turned and stuck your tongue out at him as you grabbed the ball and made your way back to your side of the court. "Alright, big shot, your turn."

He happily obliged into receiving position as you threw up your ball and hit your own top-spin serve. He got behind it pretty well, but he still couldn't cut off enough momentum. In a game, this would have been a golden "chance ball" which is all you really needed to work with. If Asahi -- who was used to much stronger attacks than you -- could only manage a rough reception from your serve, you actually had a weapon on your hands.

As the ball came back over the net, you saw your chance and jumped up. You smacked down the direct with as much strength as you could muster after a night of practice and constant reps. Luckily, that was enough strength to make it impressive.

You saw the ball fly high into the ceiling after hitting its mark on the ground as you landed on the ground. Asahi moved his eyes from where the ball was flying high back to you with a smile. "I see why you're the ace."

You smiled back. "Don't flatter me like that."

"No! Like you're a force to be reckoned with, (y/n)," he said. "Honestly, I would probably hate to play against you."

"Honestly, I get that a lot," you said with a much smaller smile as you ducked under the net and started picking up some stray balls to put them away. You knew it was starting to get late into the night and Asahi had morning practice tomorrow.
