"Tea or coffee?" you asked as you looked at him across the little table.
He scrunched up his face just a little bit as he thought about it. "I have to go with tea. Coffee makes me too shaky."
"Are you sure the shakiness isn't just you?" you asked as you brought your hand to rest on his a little bit. He had been moving it around a lot as he had it on the table.
"That's a little mean," he said, scrunching his face again at you. Still, he flipped his hand so he could capture yours within his own. He was looking down at them with a smile just as you looked at him with a smile on your face. You loved how both of you were gaining more confidence as your time together went on.
It was never like you to be bold at all, but it felt right whenever it was him in front of you. When both of you were so sheepish, it only made you feel more obligated to make the things that you wanted to happen happen, and it seemed like he was thinking the same way.
I think this guy might like me back. You thought as you looked at the way he was running his fingers over yours. Maybe a little bit.
You looked at him and he finally looked at you at the same time. You smiled. "I'm sorry if that came off as mean. That would be a bad way to treat the person that's been helping me out so much."
He smiled sheepishly and shook his head a little. "There's no way I've helped that much. You were already good without me."
"No, I would have been hitting them out still if it wasn't for you," you looked down at the table to where his hand was tracing little shapes into yours. "I wouldn't have been able to get this consistency. Without you, I don't know if I could give the girls' the chance we have now."
His hand grabbed yours. "(y/n), sometimes you talk like you're the only one that attacks on the team."
Your eyes widened as you looked at him. "I don't mean it like that. I mean it like I'm the ace and the team looks to me to attack like that."
"Which I understand. They look to me, too, but I'm not the only one on the court," he said. His eyes were kind, but it was the first time he had ever spoken to you like this. It was full of concern. "I just don't want you to put that pressure on yourself. I used to and it-- well, it never worked out for me."
You looked away from him for one of the first times to look down at the table. Did it really sound like that when you spoke about your team? Well, you always had that pressure on you from the way they talked and from your title, but you had never thought of it as affecting you so much.
Maybe you had been looking away for too long in your thoughts because Asahi's hand squeezed yours. "I didn't mean it in a bad way. I just worry about you sometimes, (y/n)."
"I understand," you said, finally looking back at him. He smiled at you softly. "I've just never had anyone tell me they were worried about me like that."
"As long as you promise to not overwork yourself, then I'll leave you alone on it," he said.
You brought your other hand up on the table and stuck out your pinky. "I promise, Azumane."
He laughed a little bit as he hooked his pinky around yours. "Sounds good, "(l/n)."

Once the two of you finished your cups of tea and lunch at the cafe, Asahi asked for a single bill and gave his own money before you could even protest. "You didn't have to do that."
"Yes, I did," he said, putting his wallet away. "Well, that's what you do for your- for- for your date."
Your eyes widened along with your smile. "What if I wanted to pay for my date?"
He chuckled. "Well, maybe you can next time? Actually, I'll compete with you on that, but, uh, can there be a next time?"
"I would love for there to be a next time."
You stood from your spots at the table and made your way back outside. Without speaking, you both took the turn that would be the long way back to your house. Despite the heat, the weather was gorgeous with a perfect breeze and the clouds dotted the skies in beautiful forms.
Without much hesitation this time, Asahi grabbed your hand in his. Walking in comfortable silence with him was even better with his fingers interlocked with your own. His presence gave you power that you had never felt before, even on the court.
You walked past a park and you subtly started to drag him towards it with you, he easily complied and the two of you continued your walk together under the trees as you walked along the path.
As you looked over at him to admire that beautiful face, you caught him looking right at you, too. He tried to look away for a second but seemed to change his mind and looked back to look at you again. As you gave him a soft smile, you felt his hand move from holding yours. You looked down in confusion, wondering if you did something to ruin it.
Instead, you felt something wrapping around your shoulders and when you looked up again, you realized that his arm had been placed around you. His strong arm with those strong muscles. You had never felt so safe than you felt at this moment.
It all felt so right, so good. How was he so good?
"I hope this is okay," he said shakily.
You moved your face to nuzzle into his chest just a little bit. "It's perfect."
