"Subirah"

My name was called, and I had to look around to identify the classroom.

"yes sir," I said. "If I had five apples, and I ate two, how many would I have left?" I was asked.

"Three apples?" I answered not really sure of the answer. "Yes, sit down, concentrate more in class Subirah, cheer up!" he said.

It was a challenge, trying to drift away into the sea of thoughts was a big challenge. But I managed to get out of the math class, without being punished.

Turns out the test was canceled till tomorrow, so I at least would have enough time to study until then.

A week almost passed, and it was the day parents would come. I had some hope. Even though Ms.J tried to make me lose hope, I still was hanging onto a little of that.

I got ready, did my hair the best I could ever do, o be honest, I had Majida do it for me, the fishtail braids. She liked doing other people's hair and especially mine, she said she liked my curly brown hair, it was soft and easy to manage.

I went downstairs along with the others, had breakfast, porridge again! and was careful not to spill anything on the new uniform I was wearing.

We sat down on the chairs we were supposed to sit on, I was sitting next to Majida, she has been my friend lately since Muthla left the orphnage.

Parents started coming in and then Ms.Maya told her same old boring speech.

Majida was the first to say the speach out of all the orphans, she was nervous bu also excited. "Hello everyone, my name is Majida I'm thirteen years old and both my parents were lost in the jungle, so this amazing orphanage took me in, and now I need parents to look after me, I need a family" She read.

I quickly hovered my eyes over the crowd of parents, and tried to look for the turners, even though I've not seen them a lot, but I still remember them very well, like my own name.

I couldn't find them! It was heartbreaking not to find them, now all I could do is get fostered by one of the parents, but I won't be with my sister and nor will I be with my best friend, not to mention 'away from my own mom!'.

My turn came soon enough. "Hello, everyone, my name is Subirah and I'm twelve years old, both my parents died in a car accident, and I was brought to the orphanage, I need a family, please adopt me" I read.

This time, I decided not to make things complicated, I read all that was on the paper, I really wanted to get adopted, it was lying but I still read it, otherwise I would be punished.

We were later sent back to our dorm after doing our chores, I sat down on my suitcase, diving into my deepest worries. "What's my mom thinking, how is she doing?", "Is she sick?" , "does she miss me?".

Of course she does, she misses me and Raya so much, but I miss her more than she misses me. We went down for dinner and this time, I read Aunties face expressions, as she was putting some stew on my plate, she was asking me to stay back after dinner, she wanted to tell me something. I nodded.

Auntie was a really nice person, she was the nicest person in the orphanage.

I stayed back after dinner and slowly walked up to her. She winked at me as I got closer. "Don't be sad, guess what I've got you? some good news, do you want to hear it?" she asked.

"I guess," I said shrugging, and trying to look like I'm not interested, you could say I was trying to act like it was the end of the world. I raised my head to give her eye contact, and she was putting on this face, my mom used to put me whenever I overreacted. She was staring at me with a faint smile.
