CHAPTER -45

Kritika's pov

"Hey April!Hye!",I tried to sound cheerful.

"Hey Kri.How have you been and how is your mom?",she asked.

"She is completely fine and I'm good too.I just wanted to know if Stefan was alright.He is not picking up my calls lately and nor is he texting me back.Is he okay?Is he home?",I asked her anticipating a positive reaction from her.

"He is not home.... like he is gone for almost 4 days and he is not in contact with any of us.Don't worry Kritika,he is perfectly fine and I'm saying this because it is not the first time this is happening.Stefan was gone for months earlier and yeah we are sort of accustomed to this.Don't worry he'll call you back and may be he is very busy."

I hung up the phone.Something is not right here.Stefan might be busy but who on earth is so busy that he wouldn't even text a simple hi and that too if you are his girlfriend.If he was going to be busy,he would have told about it the last time we spoke.Is he in some sort of trouble?How am I supposed to know?Even Clara is not picking up my calls and I have this gut feeling that there is something off with all this.Stefan would never just disappear like that after all that we had to go through in the past few months.

It sounds funny but I have reached a point in my life where I feel uncomfortable staying in my own house.I just wanna leave this place and go wherever Stefan is right now.Gosh!I think I'm gonna really have a breakdown if this continues any longer.I feel so wrecked and lonely amd scared.

Where is he?

"Sir everything is gonna be fine and I'm quite sure",Clara said patting my shoulder.

I let out a deep sigh and nod my head,"Everything is gonna be fine. Yeah".

I look into three parking lot that was overlooking the window.A familar vehicle just got parked and Alice steps down with her.

Blue gown,brown hair and honey eyes just like mine.She was walking hand in hand with her mother and looked terrified for obvious reasons.A tear drop escaped my eye and I just didn't know what to do.

Before I could guess,I knew that was hitting me.
Panic attack.
My body temperature was on a shoot and I had goose bumps at the very sight of her sad face.My hands were shaking and I felt too sweaty.I ran my shaking hands through my hair and dropped my knees to ground.

"Sir,you're alright?Oh my God!...Sir",Clara at this point is shaking my shoulders and was trying to hold my head up."Sir, look at me.Sir,keep your eyes open.I'm gonna call Kritika",she started panicking.

"No.Don't",was all I could manage to speak.

"But sir,I don't have your tablets right now.You were fine lately so I stopped carrying them and you were the one who told me that being around Kritika helps you to get out of this.Sir,let me call her so that she can help you.If the court sees you like this,they would never let you have your daughter",she was literally screaming but I hardly paid any attention to her.

"Kritika doesn't know about this.Please don't call her",I was falling out of breath but still managed to say,"I'll be alright."

"But sir.....", Clara was on the verge of tears and started rubbing my sweaty palms."What do I need to do?",she asked.

"Nothing.Give me some time and leave me alone.Just go",was all I could manage to say.

Clara was supposed to follow my orders and leave but instead she hugged my sweaty body and started rubbing my back to soothe me,"I'm not going to leave you Stefan",her voice was strong enough but it was breaking."You need to get alright and you will",she said pulling me closer and she was stroking her fingers through my hair to comfort me."Take deep breaths and think about Evangeline, think about Kritika.Think about something that would comfort you.Have in mind that we need to get Evangeline and imagine how your life is going to change the moment you have her,she will call you 'dad' or may be 'Papa' and you are gonna be happy with her and she is the most precious gift God has ever given you and you can't afford to lose her anymore",Clara tries her best to get me back to normal.

"I'm fine Clara",I say finally pulling away from her hold.My breathing fell back to normal and my body temperature was going down."Thank you for helping me out",I say and hug her once again and kiss on her forehead.

"It's time.We need to be there",I said as soon as we get up and I pull my blazer closer to my body."Com'on let's go",I said and opened the door.

"Stefan,wait",Clara said and pulled me back into the room.

"Wha...
I couldn't even complete my sentence when her lips crashed onto mine.It was just a peck not anything close compared to what I would do with Kritika but I needed it at the moment.

"Best of luck",she said and smiled.

"Thank you",I said and hugged her once again.

"Congratulations Mr.Wilson,you finally have your daughter",said the lawyer handing me over the official custody file."The child chose you",he said and hugged me.

"Can I go, get her now from Alice?",I ask him just to confirm.

"She is all yours",he said and patted my shoulder.

I feel so nervous.Oh my god! What am I going to say to her?The law has accepted me as her father but will she accept me?I was away from her all these years and I swear I would have never it happen if I knew Alice was pregnant with my child.She didn't even bother to tell me after Evangeline was born and she is the reason I was away from my daughter for four damn years.I might seem like a very bad dad to her for leaving her for years but I'm sure I'm gonna win her back one day.If Kritika were here,all this would have been so easy and I wouldn't feel this nervous.

Alice was talking to Clara handing over Evangeline's luggage to her and Evangeline sat right there on the bench carassing her doll.

"Hey Evangeline",I said at this point being the double nervous wreck from inside.My heart was ready to jump out of my ribcage at this point and now I am on my knees to equal her level and for one second she looked into my eyes and then swiftly turned her gaze away.

"It's Eva.Not Evangeline",she said and ran to her mother leaving her doll on the bench.

"So,Stefan take care of her",Alice said to me putting on the fakest smile"And you be a good girl",she said pecking Eva on her forehead before bidding her final goodbye.

"Sir,the car is outside and we should probably go home",Clara says and as she carries Eva in her arms kissing on her cheek.

"Hey,let me do that",I say and and she hands Eva to me."Little princess",I say and kiss on her cheek but she doesn't look happy at all and she is not even ready to acknowledge the fact that I'm her father.She stays in my arms as we walk out of the court room and doesn't say a word.
