Sydnie's POV
I followed Rick up to the road where his group was waiting. "Did you get anything?" A boy who was about thirteen asked."No," Rick told him. "But we found a prison, we were thinking of checking it out, see if we can stay there. Where's your mother?"
The kid pointed to a car, "She's sleeping." I noticed a pregnant woman leaning against the window inside the car.
Rick nodded, "Go find Beth." I watched as the kid walked over to a blonde girl and sat down by her.
"He yours?" I asked Rick.
He nodded. "Come on, I'll introduce you."
I followed Rick over to a small group of people. "Sydnie, this is Hershel, ️Maggie and Carol. Guys, this is Sydnie."
Carol smiled, "Welcome to the group."
"Thanks," I told her.
"What happened to your hand Rick?" Herschel asked.
I looked down at Rick's hand and saw the dried blood from where I'd cut him. "I fell and cut it." Rick said calmly. I looked at him and he gave me a small nod.
"Let me clean it, don't need it getting infected." Hershel grabbed Rick and pulled him away.
️Maggie grabbed my hand. "Come meet the rest of us." I followed over over to where the kid went. "This is Carl, Beth and T-Dog."
I smiled at Carl and Beth. "Hi."
They smiled at me and I looked up at Maggie. "Aren't much for talking, are you guys?"
"They're just nervous, it's not often we get new people." She told me. "Carl, where's Glenn?"
"Over there," Carl said, pointing at a familiar looking man.
"Who's that?" I asked Maggie, making sure I heard her right.
She lead me towards him, "Glenn."
It couldn't be him, could it? "Glenn, meet Sydnie."Glenn looked up at me and my jaw dropped. "Glenn?"
His eyes widened. "Holy shit, is that you Syd?" I nodded, tears forming in my eyes. Glenn ran towards me and hugged me, "I missed you so much."
I pulled back and held his face in my hands. "You look so much older Glenny." His hair was way longer and he no longer had his baby face.
"It's been eight years Syd, why didn't you come back?" He said, tucking my hair behind my ear.
I wrapped my arms around him and gave him another hug. "I don't know Glenny," I said, leaning my head on his shoulder.
"What's going on?" I looked up to see Rick and Daryl coming towards us.
Daryl looked between Glenn and I, "You know each other or somethin?" He glared.
"Yeah," I scoffed. "He's my brother dipshit."
Daryl glared and looked between the two of us. "You're not even Chinese."
"I'm Korean," Glenn muttered.
"Whatever."
I rolled my eyes. "I was adopted, hence why I'm not Korean."
"You have a sister?" Maggie asked.
Glenn scratched the back of his neck. "Uh yeah, didn't I tell you that?"
️Maggie glared, "No you didn't."
"Well I didn't even know if she was alive. Last I heard you were still living up in Canada Syd."
I shrugged. "I was coming down to see you guys and well, yeah. Do you know what happened to mom and dad?"
Glenn's face paled and I took a step back. "No no no, they can't be dead!"
"I'm sorry," Glenn told me. "I got home and, I was too late."
I rubbed my eyes and took a deep breath, "It's fine Glenn, not like they cared about me anyways."
"Don't say that Sydnie."
"It's true, you were always better then me at everything." Glenn tried grabbing my shoulder, but I shrugged him off. "We going to this prison?" I asked Rick.
"Yeah, we'll leave in ten." He told me. I watched as Glenn followed Maggie and her family to a car. Was I suppose to go with them, or what? I jumped from pain when I felt a hand grab my arm.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you." Daryl apologized.
"It's nothing, just hurt it when I fell at the house. What do you want Daryl?" I said.
"You're riding with me," he said. I looked over his shoulder and saw a motorcycle. My eyes widened and he rolled his eyes, "You'll be fine." He turned around and walked to his bike with out another word.
"Aren't you a peach," I muttered under my breath as I followed him.
"What?"
"Nothing."
Daryl shook his head and climbed on the bike. Hesitantly I followed and sat behind him. I put my hands on his shoulders and he muttered something under his breath. He grabbed my hands and put them around his waist.
"Hold on," He told me. He started the bike and lead the way to the prison.
***
Glenn pushed a walker against the fence with his spear and I stabbed it in the head with my knife. "Thanks," he said.
I nodded and walked over to where Daryl and Rick were holding the fence open. Once T-Dog made it in, Glenn tied the fence back up with wire. I pulled him back when a walker got to close for comfort. He nodded and we followed the group down the fence as they ran towards the front gate.
Once we got to the gate we waited for Rick to say something. I couldn't help but notice the high amount of walkers around us. "We'll be fine." I looked up to see Daryl watching me.
"I sure hope so," I told him.
"It's perfect," Rick said. "If we can shut that gate, prevent more from getting into the field, we can take out these walkers. We'll take the field by the night."
"So how do we shut the gate?" Hershel asked.
"I'll do it." Everyone looked at me as I spoke up. "You guys can cover me, I'll lock it shut."
"No, it's suicide." Glenn told me.
"I'm the fastest, besides, I've gotta prove myself somehow."
Rick nodded. "If you're sure you can do it I'm fine with it. Glenn, Maggie, Beth, draw as many as you can over there, pop them through the fence. Daryl, go back to the other tower." Rick kept barking out orders until it was just the two of us left. "You sure you want to do this?"
"I'm sure Rick."
He nodded and handed me his silencer. "Take this, don't need to attract any unwanted attention ." I grabbed the lock from him and got ready at the gate. Rick looked at me and I nodded, he opened the gate and I took of running into the field.
I raised my pistol as I ran around the overturned bus, shooting a few walkers that were too close. One jumped at me and fell to the ground a second later. I saw the arrow in its head and made a note to thank Daryl later.
Everyone kept picking off the walkers around me, I came to a stop as a bullet hit the ground in front of me. I looked up at the tower and saw Carol. "Sorry," she yelled.
The gate was right in front of me now, I shot a stray walker and grabbed onto the gate. I kicked a walker in the chest and locked it up. My pistol was on the ground and I grabbed it, shooting the walkers around me.
I opened the tower door, shooting two walkers inside and closed it behind me. I slid down the door and tried catching my breath.
"Light it up!" I heard Daryl yell, followed by gunshots. I chuckled to myself, we did it, the field was ours.
