Sydnie' POV
"You okay Syd?" Daryl's voice snapped me out of my haze. I looked up at him to see worry in his eyes. I gave him a blank look and shook my head. He frowned and held me to his chest again.I nuzzled my face into his chest and tried to calm down. When I looked up I saw Rick on the ground, staring at absolutely nothing, and Carl bringing the baby over to Hershel.
"What are we gonna feed it?" Daryl asked, loosening his grip on me. "We got anythin a baby can eat?"
Hershel looked down at the baby as Carl stood in front of him. "The good news is she looks healthy, but she's going to need formula. And soon, or she won't survive."
"Nope. No way. Not her," Daryl said, letting go of his grip on me completely. He grabbed his crossbow and threw it over his shoulder. "We ain't losin anybody else. I'm going on a run."
"I'll go too," Maggie told him.
Daryl nodded, "Okay, think where we're going." He turned to me and gave me a small smile. "You watch Carl, okay? The kid just lost his mom and his dad ain't doing so hot."
I nodded. "I'll watch him Daryl, be safe." I hugged him and placed a kiss on his cheek. Him and Maggie ran to his bike to leave and I turned around to see Rick going back into the cellblock with his axe in his hand. Glenn looked at me and shook his head, Rick has completely lost it.
"I'm going to go dig the graves," Glenn told me. "Are you okay here?"
"Yeah," I told him. I pulled him into a hug, "I love you so much."
He kissed my head, "I love you too sis." He gave me a smile and started walking down towards the field. I walked over to Carl, Beth, and Hershel and went back to the cellblock with them.
"Do you want to hold her?" Carl asked me when we sat down. I nodded and he carefully handed me his baby sister. Her eyes were closed and she curled up in my arms, it was amazing how something so beautiful can live in a world like this.
***
It was dark by the time Daryl and Maggie got back. In that time Glenn had went down in the tombs to find Rick, only to come back with a scared expression on his face and he wouldn't say a word to anyone.
When Daryl and Maggie came into the cellblock my face lit up as I saw that Maggie had a bunch of formula in her bag. "How's she doing?" Daryl asked Carl, who was trying to calm down his crying sister.
Daryl gently took the baby from Carl and cradled her I his arms. "Shh," he whispered, rocking her back and forth. He looked up at me and I smiled, he was so happy holding her.
Beth handed him the bottle and he started feeding the baby girl. Her cries instantly stopped and I saw a genuine smile form on Daryl's face. I'd never seen him fully smile before, but when he held that baby, he couldn't stop.
"She got a name yet?" Daryl asked Carl.
Carl shook his head. "Not yet. I was thinking maybe Sofia. Then there's Carol too. Andrea, Amy, Jacqui, Patricia, or.. Lori." His voice cracked at the end and he looked down at his feet.
Daryl looked up at me and down at the baby, smiling the whole time. "Yeah, you like that," he cooed to the baby. "Ya little ass-kicker. Right? That's a good name right?" He looked sound the group who was quietly chuckling.
I giggled and if Daryl's smile could get any bigger, it would. I looked at the baby in his arms and noticed her brown eyes resembled Lori's. At the thought of Lori my stomach instantly dropped and I stopped smiling.
"I'm going to turn in for the night," I told the group. Glenn sent me a worried look and I tried my hardest to send him a smile, but I dont think it worked.
