Chapter 5

"I think it's a cut scene," Gabriel said as he read the letter. "A lot of games have them. It's like a little movie to tell you the backstory."

"My name is Nigel Billingsley," Nigel announced in the letter. "Jumanji field guide. I was hired by your former partner, now nemesis, Professor Russell van Pelt, to lead a fateful expedition. You see, Professor van Pelt had come in search of the fabled Jaguar Shrine, the resting place of the secret jewel of Jumanji. As you know better than anyone, the jewel was his great obsession. And after years of research, he believed that he had discovered its whereabouts."

"Could it be?" Professor van Pelt asked as the cut scene continued. "Have I finally found it?"

"Van Pelt told me to find the jewel in order to document it in his writings," Nigel continued in the letter.

"It's real!" Professor van Pelt exclaimed as he found the jewel at last.

"What I did not know," Nigel continued. "Was that he had intended to take the jewel for himself.

"I FOUND IT!" Van Pelt exclaimed as he took the jewel for himself. "I FOUND IT!"

"Legend tells that the Jaguar watches over Jumanji," Nigel continued. "And anyone who dares to blind him will be consumed by a dark power. Van Pelt assumed dominion over all of Jumanji's creatures, possessing them, controlling them. And a terrible curse befell this once placid land. I begged him to put it back, but once he had it in his grasp, he could never let it go. So I waited until they slept that night and I made my move."

Nigel immediately grabbed the jewel from where van Pelt had placed it before sneaking off with the jewel to put it back to where it belonged, but to no avail as a bird began shrieking, which in turn, woke up van Pelt and the others. Nigel immediately ran off before the others could catch up to him but van Pelt immediately fired his gun and began shooting in Nigel's direction as Nigel continued running away with the jewel.

"BRING ME THAT JEWEL!" Van Pelt exclaimed angrily and in a fit of rage. "AND SLAUGHTER ANYONE WHO TRIES TO STOP YOU!"

Right afterwards, the cut scene ended as Nigel hands Gabriel the jewel that he had stolen from van Pelt.

"Right then," Nigel announced as he handed the jewel to Gabriel. "Here you go. With the invaluable help of your associates, you must use your complementary skills to return the jewel to the Jaguar's eye and lift the curse. And I'm sure you'll want to get started right away."

"Actually I think —," Gabriel announced.

"Good luck!" Nigel exclaimed as he interrupted Gabriel and let the four teens out of his Jeep. "The fate of Jumanji is in your hands."

"What?!" The other three teens exclaimed as Nigel began letting them out. "Whoa!"

"Oh and remember," Nigel announced as the teens got out of the Jeep. "The goal for you, I'll recite in verse. Return the jewel and lift the curse. If you wish to leave the game, you must save Jumanji and call out it's name. Good luck! The fate of Jumanji is in your hands. And remember, the goal for you..."

"He's saying the same things over and over," Oscar announced as he got out of the Jeep along with the others.

"It's okay," Ebba whined as she tried to comfort herself. "You can handle this. In real life, people love you. You can hook up with anyone you want."

"Is that what you tell yourself when you're scared?" Tilda asked as she turned to Ebba, seeming unimpressed.

"Can you not judge me for like two seconds?!" Ebba exclaimed as she turned to Tilda. "I split up with Noah, I have no makeup on and I can't find my phone! I'm allowed to be upset!"
