Chapter 14

"How do you even afford this place, your taking a gap year and its been like 6 months since you've done a job?" 

"Ymir I don't think you grasp the concept of just how bad some police are at catching criminals. They'll pay 10k for someone with just a few murder convictions. It's actually kinda pathetic how half of them don't even try, they'd rather pay off someone else to catch them then try it themselves." 

"Speaking of which how much did you get paid for your last job?"

"70k."

"HOW?!?!" 

"Some extremely rich family's daughter got raped then killed, they hired heaps of private investigators and everything. It was the first case I had done in over a 9 months but when they called me I could hear the pain in their voice so I took the case."

"Did they go to the police first?"

"Yeah but they couldn't find him. Funny thing is, I didn't even know how much I was getting paid or who they were for that matter. I was just bored and needed some action, plus my debit card was low on money and I knew i'd at least get 5k out of it."

"So how'd you catch them?"

"I took a look at the evidence first, turns out they dna tested every thing and got nothing back."

"So?"

"But they didn't check her socks, they just sat in evidence for like 3 months until I came around. Some of the rapists cum got on them, I was able to get his dna and whole profile off them. I looked him up and of course there was nothing on him, or his family either. But then I went through his driver license history, turns out that on his latest one he wasn't able to get a new picture taken in person so he sent them one of him from his phone. I did a reverse image search on it and found out that it was used in a book. His book that he wrote to be precise, there were only ever 20 copies made so it's no wonder it didn't show up when I googled him. He used the same picture for the part in the back of a book where the author tells about themselves. He said he was from a town called "Charlestonn" which I thought was just the city of "Charleston" misspelled, because the correct spelling matched up with his birth certificate. But then I realized that "Charlestonn" was a real place, not just a typo. It's really a small town of no more than 100 people, its located in the rural areas of Russia. It turns out that he had faked his birth certificate and was really from Russia, he was also hiding in that exact place from the book. I ended up having to chase him halfway across the continent but finally caught him when he didn't have enough money for another plane ticket."

"No way, all from socks?"

"Yeah, when I got back they payed me handsomely. They also had connections with some other rich people so now I also get free shipping from Amazon and never have to pay to rent a movie again so it was worth it."

"Damn Annie, you bounty hunters sure make a lot."

"Yeah but once you get past 35 your not young enough to keep up with them so it's not the best job. What about you Ymir, still working at that bakery?"

"Yeah I'll take a few shifts a week."

"How do you survive on a few shifts?" Asked Historia

"She leeches off me." Joked Annie

"Im serious."

"The envelopes duh." Answered Ymir

"The what?"

"Did you not tell her about the envelopes?" Asked Annie

"No I guess it never came up in a conversation."
