When dinner had finished all to quickly and the members of the Justice League began to pack up and head back to their respective cities, I began to drag Jason to my room. I hadn't said a word to him the entire way and neither had he, which was odd for him.
"If you wanted to get me back in bed you could've just asked, no need to drag me." He said with a huff as I pushed him inside the doorway.
"Don't ever speak of that again. I don't know why you came back or why you think it's alright to just waltz into my home and my life but you are not welcome." I said sternly. While my emotional bond with Nightwing was much stronger and more accurate, my empathy allowed me to feel small traces of every one's emotions and auras. Right now, Jason was just as he always was, arrogant and sure of his actions. I suppose back in the day that was one of the things that had attracted me, but at this current moment it was infuriating.
"Calm down sunshine. I know you better than you think I do. If you truly thought I wasn't welcome I would've already been in another dimension by now. So you either came back for more of me or you're looking for information. And based your attitude right now I'm guessing you don't want more of me." He smirked. I recognized his thought process and knew that Batman must've ingrained all of his Robin's with the same detective training.
"Who bailed you out?" I said in a monotone voice. I wanted answers then I wanted him out of my house.
"Wouldn't you like to know." He smirked again, this time removing his mask to truly reveal the arrogant smile that was across his face. He ran a hand through his hair and everything in me wanted to smack the smile off of his face.
"Yes in fact I would. I know for a fact I disarmed you in that police van, so someone bailed you out. Who was it?" I said letting a little bit of force enter my voice. I knew that the only way to get answers out of Jason was to get angry because it seemed to be the one emotion he related to the most.
"Who bailed me out is none of your concern. They bailed me out and in return I've got a job to do for them." He said. However, I felt the twinge of guilt that ran through his mind when he mentioned the job he had to do. Jason was many things but rarely did his conscience allow for guilt.
"What's the job and who hired you?" I pushed. He ignored my question and walked across my room towards the large window that was currently covered by dark curtains. His lack of an answer gave me an uneasy feeling, knowing that he normally wouldn't have been quiet for so long.
I slowly walked over to him as he pushed back the curtains to let the moonlight in. He crossed his arms and leaned against the wall which was always his favorite spot in my room. There was a strange sense of déjà vu as I saw him brood in the corner like he had so many years ago. But no matter how strange it was it wouldn't distract me from the task at hand.
"I was told to keep the job details classified. And as for my employer, I've yet to meet him" he said with a scowl on his face.
"If you won't tell me what the job is, tell me why you came back in the first place." I said back in my monotone voice.
He sighed deeply as if he were thinking, no doubt on whether he should lie or tell the truth. "You want the truth?" He said quietly. I scoffed and rolled my eyes. Taking a seat on the end of my bed I followed his eyes to see Superman flying off towards the sky.
"Why would I want you to lie to me? Haven't I already had enough of that?" I snapped back.
"I had just come back to Gotham after being dead. Not a single person cared." He said and I could feel the anger rising. "Bruce went into denial and Dick went ballistic on me. He mentioned you and I saw the opportunity as revenge. When I was Robin, I was always being compared to Dick, Bruce never shut up about him. Dick and I may have been close when we were younger, but nothing made me happier than to know I slept with his girl before he could. Finally I would be able to knock him off his high horse." He laughed almost evilly as he walked over to me.
