Snow Stained with Blood (Mephisto Pheles fanfiction)

Chapter 9

Hi everyone! Sorry for such a long delay, life got in the way as per usual but I will hopefully get the chance to write regularly again in the coming months. Thank you for waiting and I hope you enjoy this chapter!

I walked alongside Shura as she was dragging Rin along in a headlock, with Yukio explaining to our fellow classmates that the mission was over for today. "How come Apocrypha is going with you?!" Suguro asked. Yukio avoided his question "please, return to your dorm rooms and I'll see you in class tomorrow" and with that he used one of his many keys to unlock a door to the Japan branch of the knights of the True Cross. We walked along a bridge to the main area and I looked around at the familiar scenery, me and my mother would come here when I was younger. She would often come here on official business and brought me when she couldn't find a babysitter or when she thought I could learn something about becoming an exorcist.

Shura explained all about the different branches of the Knights of the True cross until we met Mephisto, who was stood waiting for us along with Mr Tsubaki. Mephisto and Shura talked for a little while with Shura almost interrogating him about Rin and him being the son of Satan and everything. Shura however, didn't seem like she believed anything Sir Pheles said, and neither did I for that matter; not just because he was a demon, but because of how he talked as though this was all common knowledge. Shura then asked if she could use the great cell to interrogate Rin and began to drag him over in that direction shoving him in and locking the door behind her. I gripped the key around my neck nervously; I was worried about Rin, though I knew only senior exorcists could unlock the great cell and I was only an exwire. "Miss Apocrypha" Mephisto said, snapping me out of my thoughts "I heard that you witnessed what happened at the amusement park. I apologise if you got hurt in any way"
I shook my head, I didn't want to cause a fuss "I just got bruised a bit, that's all"
"well if you're sure then you may go back to your dorm room at the academy" Mephisto said, which kind of took me by surprise, I thought I was going to be interrogated about Rin Amaimon. "actually, Sir Pheles, before I go, is it alright if I visit my mother's plaque?" I asked. You see, when high ranking exorcists, or exorcists who have great achievements die/get killed in battle, the often get their names, date of birth and death carved into a solid gold plaque and mounted on the wall in whatever branch they were from. Mephisto thought for a second "I don't see why not" he said. I replied with a nod and walked over the wall only a couple of hundred yards away. The wall itself was huge and covered with golden plaques, showing the names of dead exorcists, some of them dating back to centuries years ago. Despite the large amount of plaques, I knew where my mother's plaque was like it was the back of my hand. I stood in front of it and began speaking softly with a smile.
"hi mom. I know its been a while but I wanted to come and tell you everything that's happened recently. I joined the cram school and I passed the exwire exam...so I'm an exwire now...oh and Rin also joined the cram school too. I don't talk to the people in class very often but we do get along. Me and Fura are as strong as ever too! I wish you were here to see it all" my smile turned into a small frown and a few droplets of tears escaped.

I heard footsteps approaching me from the side and saw a beaten-up Rin being dragged along by Yukio coming my way, 'his interrogation must be over already' was the first that that came to my mind. "Come on Violet, you and Rin need to get stitched up at the infirmary after your battle with that demon" Yukio said to which I nodded and followed him

At the infirmary, Yukio applied some antiseptic and bandages to any cuts I had while also scolding Rin about being such a cry-baby....it was nice to see them getting along for a brief moment. "Hey, Violet" I suddenly turned my attention to Rin "what were you doing in front of all the golden plaque thingies?" he asked. I smiled "Oh I was just telling my mom what I'd been up to recently". He was about to reply when Shura walked in and threw a wooden sword at him stating if he wanted his own one back then he'd have to master using a wooden one first. I didn't think that was entirely fair but who was I to question a professional exorcist like her, especially when she must be protecting Rin's identity as the son of Satan.

~ Back in Mephisto's office ~
"I won't send a report to the Vatican yet, I'm gonna keep an eye on Rin Okumura for a while though. I'd like you to find me a place here at the Japan branch." Shura spoke as Mephisto flicked through a report, shutting it as she finished speaking.
"As you wish. Actually, that's a wonderful idea, it would be reassuring to have such a capable exorcist in our midst" he said with his usual sly tone
"your exwires seem to be capable enough already...especially that Apocrypha girl, her name's Violet, right? I'm surprised she didn't get boosted up straight to a professional exorcist after her exwire exam, especially considering her ability to handle a demon weapon with such control. I'm guessing you got some kinda plan for her?" She stated, trying to get some information out of him.
He chuckled and rested his head on his hand "haha well she is a fine student I must admit but I'm not planning anything~"
Shura glared at him and sighed before leaving the room
"I've not got anything planned for her YET anyway, I'm waiting till she unlocks her true potential~"
