Chapter 6

"Ready Fura?!" I yelled as I ran through the halls of the dorm trying to locate where Rin and that demon went. "I'm always ready!" Fura replied from within the scythe. The scythe itself was large and had the appearance of metal but to me it weighed nothing.
I heard noises coming from the basement so I quickly made my way down there only to see Rin fighting the demon from before and Mr Neuhaus who appeared to be controlling the demon. "so, it's one of his familiars?" I said quietly to myself. I didn't have time to think anymore about the situation when Rin's flames appeared. I threw my scythe at the demon causing it to spin and it stuck directly into the demon's neck.
"huh, Violet?!" Rin yelled as he looked in my direction
"Rin quick, finish it off!" I yelled in response only for Rin to nod in agreement and use his sword to kill it, turning it to ashes. My scythe dropped to the floor with a clanging sound, I let a breath go that I didn't realise I had been holding in and walked over to pick my scythe up.
"thanks for the help Violet. You arrived right on time" Rin said with enthusiasm.
blushing I replied "w-well I didn't want you to fight it by yourself!"
"wait what about the others?! They're fighting the other half of that demon, right?!" Rin suddenly shouted and began running back to the room we were in previously and I quickly followed, keeping my scythe ready.

We arrived back in the room and saw the rest of our classmates exhausted on the floor "what happened to your ghoul?" Suguro questioned
"oh, we killed it. I guess you guys took care of the other one huh? Awesome" Rin said with pleased look on his face only for Suguro to run at him and basically punch him in the face to which my response was to giggle slightly.

Yukio and Mr Neuhaus suddenly came back into the room much to mine and Rin's surprise.
Rin glared at Neuhaus "Yukio, that guy, he's our..." before Rin could finish his sentence a pair of boots struck him in the head sending him flying across the room. I looked up to see Mephisto dangling from the ceiling "hello my young pages! Many thanks for all your hard work!" he said enthusiastically.
"it's the director" "what's going on?" Suguro and Shima said
Mephisto turned to them "you didn't think I'd let an upper-level demon just waltz onto my campus, did you?" he said and with a snap of his fingers our cram school teacher began revealing themselves all over the room: in the ceiling, under the floorboards and in the storage cupboards behind the sliding doors.
'I thought I could feel someone watching us' I thought
"instructors with doctor credentials attend to the wounded" Mephisto ordered and even though I wasn't that injured myself, I received a shot in my arm to help with the ghoul demon's fluid temptaint from before.
My fellow classmates where still in shock "No way..." Suguro said, looking defeated.
"Surprise! This is no ordinary boot camp kids! In fact, you've just completed your exwire authorisation exam" Mephisto said in his usual flamboyant fashion with a grin on his face.
Rin looked shocked and confused from his place on the floor and as if Mephisto could read his mind he said "it's rather sneaky I know. This whole time we had a team of instructors hidden throughout the building in places where they could observe you're every move. After I have a chance to review their reports, I'll be the one to determine who passed and who failed. I'm sure you're as anxious as I am to see how you did" he ended his explanation with a wink.

"Oh, is that really all this is?" I finally spoke up "I guess I can disarm myself then" dark flames started coming from my scythe and I was about to turn it back into its key from when Shima asked "hey violet, what is that thing?" he looked kind of scared.
I smiled at him in an attempt to calm him down and began to explain why I was holding a giant scythe "this is the demon I have a contract with. Its name is Furaribi or Fura for short. We've been partners since I was a child so we're really close"
"Furaribi? As in the third flame of Gehenna?" Izumo questioned
"Mhm. But don't worry, he's actually a big softie" I giggled before the flames consumed my scythe again and it turned back into a small key which I tied around my neck again as a necklace.

After checking everyone over Mephisto sent us to the hospital wing where we were given fluids and a chance to reflect on the day while Mephisto himself checked over the reports made by the instructors.
I felt kind of nervous. I know I went to help Rin but I also left the other alone to fight, even if they did manage to kill that demon together.

~Meanwhile in Mephisto's office~

Instructors were gathered in Mephisto's office while he looked over the reports of each student "ah here we are, Miss Apocrypha's report" he said as he picked up the paper file that had my school ID photo clipped to the front. He opened it and began reading the score I received in different aspects of the examination:

Score: 97/100
Resourcefulness: 96/100
Strength: 98/100
Stamina: 99/100
Teamwork: 96/100

"hmm so overall, not to bad on her part" he grinned as he tapped the side of the paper
"Sir Pheles, what about the scythe miss Apocrypha used? it's an extremely dangerous weapon and we were surprised when she summoned it out of the blue" one of the instructors said in a concerned tone to which the other instructors nodded in agreement.
"oh I'm sure she'll be fine. Her and that scythe have been together since she was 13 years old. It was a birthday present from her mother because Violet wanted to begin training to become an exorcist" Mephisto said, calming the tense atmosphere "and thanks to the weekly reports you have all graciously been giving me on her progress I see no need to act on anything".
Mephisto then continued to look through the rest of the reports, ready to tell the cram school students the good news tomorrow.
