Chapter 8: The Escape

Just as Sandbay had predicted after about 3 days they let her off her chains. In those three days they hadn't given her any water and at first I didn't now why. When the guards thought everyone was asleep I heard

them say that they were planning on making her go crazy by not giving her water. And that morning when they unchained her I gave her my water for her to drink.

after she was done inhaling the water she looked up and said "thank you. I really needed that." She rubbed her wrists witch were raw from the chains. "Now we can escape" she whispered looking up at me. I looked at her a little surprised.

"Now?" I asked. " I just started and.." I trailed off.

"Well then work harder" she joked.

I laughed. The guards looked surprised and a little shocked that I was laughing. But I didn't care.

When the guards left to have lunch I started to bang the wall. I almost smashes my talons a lot of times! But made a hole that was almost as big as my head. I was going to work some more when the guards were asleep.

*almost midnight*
The guards were finally asleep. And had left. The scariest part now was trying to make a hole without waking everyone.

It was very slow but by the time I heard the keys of the guards the hole was big enough to fit my whole body. My heart stopped for a second when one guard came to my cell and took a key. I thought I was going to be put in the arena! Then they would see the hole and the whole plan will be ruined! I thought fanatically trying to hide the hole. But it was just the cell by me.

But the weirdest thing was that I recognized the dragon that came out of the cell. She was tall and skinny. You could see her bones. She also was a weird light grey almost the stone color. But she seemed familiar. But where?

Anyways I have to keep working. Without attracting the guards! I thought looking at the hole I made. I have to keep working and finish this soon.

*Few hours latter*
"I see light! I see the outside!! Sandbay, we did it!!" I loudly whispered almost yelling. I looked over to Sandbay's jail. Then I saw the most surprising thing. Sandbay is lying on the ground unconscious!!

"Help! Help!! Sandbays unconscious!! Help she's dying!!" I yelled getting the guards attention. Shoot the tunnel! I flung my wings out to hide the tunnel but acted like I was just scared.

A guard came over and looked at her then walked away!! Oooh!! You will be sorry that you didn't help her. I will kill you if she does and you didn't do anything. I glared at the guards feeling the heat rising in my throat. My legs shaking with fiery. I wanted to melt them to death but before I could open my mouth to melt them I saw a movement in the corner of my eye.

I didn't really mind it so I opened my mouth and let the death breathe come out and hit the guards. I heard sizzling telling me I hit them. But there was no screaming, no calls for help, no nothing. I had my eyes close and when I opened them I saw a dragon standing in front of my cage at least I thought it was a dragon.

It was all rinkily and melted. It had its claws almost to my bars when I hit it. It was definitely dead. I looked behind it and saw no one else. I saw a glimmer on the dragons hip.

I put my arm through and took the shimmery thing from the dragon. It was a key!! I tried it on my lock. It opened! I was scared that a siren would go off.

But nothing. Then I went it Sandbay's jail cell to tell her that I did it. My stomach dropped when I saw that Sandbay was gone!

"Shoot, no!" I whispered while going back to my cell to go through the tunnel.

When I got to the other side of the tunnel. The sun was so bright I thought I would go blind. But I had to find Sandbay and I had a strange feeling that I would also find Star. But Star died. Didn't she? I started to walk contemplation if she was alive when I finally found the arena. Which surprising was very easy to find because there was dragons cheering. I really hoped that Sandbay was not fighting because if she was I would be in big trouble.

My stomach twisted and my hopes were smashed when I saw those unmistakeable purple yellow scales. And I watched as a Lavawings charged at her slicing her belly, then tail, then neck cutting her gills in half all in one swift swoop. As she stumbled back in pain from the attack I saw a climber of scales that I recognized immediately. But no. She died, in front of my! No! But as I ran after the stranger she turned around and the face that saw starring back at me was...
