you couldn't have been more foolish. even though you knew it wouldn't work out in the end, you still insisted that things would get better, that you both wouldn't fight as much in the future.

but then jay began to grow distant...more distant than before. and that's when you started to notice all the faults in the relationship.

"i'm not gonna argue with you, not when i don't even know the reason why we're yelling at each other anymore," you scoff, turning your back on jay and going to sit on the couch.

"we aren't yelling at each other. you're yelling at me for coming home late even though i told you i had practice," jay said, his eyebrows furrowing in frustration. "i've told you time and time again what to expect when we started dating."

he was right of course. but you were too stubborn to ever let him know that.

"that's the same excuse you've used for the past two months! and you could have at least texted me! i am so lonely here jay! i barely ever see you anymore! if there weren't pictures of you everywhere on my social media feed, camera roll, and bedroom, i would come to think that you just disappeared from my life. i am sick of doing this every night," you say harshly, blinking back tears that threaten to spill from your eyes.

"if you're so sick of it then let's break up. because if i'm being honest, it's getting so tiring having to tend to you and all your issues," jay jeers, beginning to walk towards your apartment door.

you watch him silently, tears beginning to slowly cascade down your cheeks as he slips his shoes on before turning back to you. "we're done. i'll be back in the morning to collect my things."

he slams the door as he leaves, the bang echoing in your ears as you stare blankly at where he had just stood.

the past few seconds replay in your mind over and over again, the realization of what just happened hitting you with immense power. choking out a sob, you bring a hand up, coving your mouth as you tuck your knees to your chest.

why hadn't you seen all the faults sooner?
