Chapter thirteen: Formidable opponents

Everyone was practicing hard “don’t just stand there, follow through and go after every ball as if it's the last piece of meat on earth, don’t take a ball off if you do that will be the one you cry about," coach ukai yelled out at them as they where practicing receives.

during the water break, they were looking at a magazine Tanaka showed us. “ Look That's ushiwaka from shiratorizawa academia they name him one of the top three players to watch in this year's national.”

“that’s the school Kageyama didn’t get into,” Hinata said causing my brother to yell at him to shot up.

I sat down beside suga as my brother yelled at Yamaguchi and tsukishima while Hinata asked who ushiwaka was.

“you seriously don’t know?” Tanaka asked. 

“of course not he only cares about the tiny giant,” suga said smile up at Hinata.

“ushiwaka is a nickname, his real name is wakatoshi Ushijima and the number one ace in the prefecture.”

“yeah look at him that what an ace should look like," Daichi said as everyone looked at Asahi who then sulked with nishinoya patting him on the back.

“is ushiwaka the reason you wanted to go to shiratorizawa?” suga asked my brother. 

“let me guess you wanted to march up to that legendary ace move it you clumsy dumbass like you do Hinata” Tanaka laughed at my brother who replied with an "of course not” causing  them all to laugh at my brother

“so we can’t play Nekoma without first beating these guys,” Hinata asked as the coach joined us. 

“remember boys shiratorizawa isn’t the only good team” my brother helped me up from my sitting position “yeah but based on last year there the biggest threat,” suga said.

“Thanks for stating the obvious but there's a whole lot more than them such as wakutani south which has excellent defense and solidarity, date tech known as the iron wall because they have the higher blocks than either other. From what I understand we lost 2-0 last march in the public prefecture back in march." 

he then explains why they weren’t seated and how we could be against them in round one and how we would also be against Aoba johsai and Oikawa and them ranking in the top four last year.

“last but not least shiratorizawa backed by the number one ace wakatoshi Ushijima that the short version I’ll give you more information later..you two smartasses want to pay attention or share your thought with the class both Daichi and suga shook their heads.

"Anyway, I think those are the four-team I think we should watch out for. saying that if you spend too much time looking up you're getting the rug under you don't make the mistake of thinking you're the only one aiming for the top spot, sure enough, we’ll be working our ass off but so will they” he continues and saying “don’t let them call us the clipped crows again." 

Takeda came rushing “your all still in here sorry I’m late I got stuck in a meeting anyway i got the bracket for the preliminaries” we had both date tech and Aoba johsai seated in our block Kiyoko waved me away from the boys talking about a banner she found and wanted to clean up and repaint.

“yeah I have some white paint at home I can bring it to you during school and we can finish after practice”  “that's fine thank you”

During our school breaks the next day I watched my brother jammed the two buttons on the vending machine. “What are you thinking? ” I asked him.

“ what Oikawa said last time” he answered me. 

“I see, are you worried?” he shrugged.

“not really we can only do our best” I smiled and nodded.

“anyway, I will be staying a little after practice."

“for?"

“to help Kiyoko with some manager stuff” he stared at me.

“I’ll meet you at coach ukai shop I heard Daichi was treating you to some meat buns today."

“okay” I headed back to class to class and soon practice was underway.

“hey, man bun would you say you're good at back attacks” coach ukai was trying a new strategy. Such as suga and Hinata quick attack. Soon they were packing up and me and Kiyoko left suga telling us good night, it didn’t take us long to clean and paint the banner. The next week went by fast and soon it was time for me and Kiyoko to reveal the banner “I’m not good at words but me and yalina kind of did something we went up to the viewing deck and showed the guys the banner we cleaned and repainted

“I found while cleaning up, so me and yalina cleaned it and repaired it. Nishinoya and Tanaka were screaming but Daichi told them to stop."

 both Kiyoko and I got ready to say. I nodded at her as she looked embarrassed  

“you can do it”. She then ran off as the upperclassmen started crying but returned to see the boys getting excited. I stood beside her and smiled watching Tanaka throw nishinoya in the air.

The next morning I watched my brother and Hinata race to the club room. I slowly made my way there when I got there the upperclassmen were there already. Today was the day of preliminaries at the Sendai gymnasium. I was sick what a great start to the day so unfortunately I will be stuck in the stands for today as ordered by the coach on my brother.
