A bird that's not really a bird?

Never thought I'd ever describe a machine as beautiful, but the TARDIS is stunning!!! After the Doctor got off the phone with Winston freaking Churchill! A row of lights lit up heading deeper into the spaceship. He explained that she was showing us to our rooms so we could get cleaned up and rest while the Doctor gets us to where we need to go! I mean that's amazing! And the shower I had was out of this world, literally. I'm currently sat on a dresser going over what happened a few mere hours ago. I was in space, in the future and all I was wearing was my underwear, I chose to forget, we fell into the mouth of a beast, I went into sensory overload and blocked out everything, the Doctor saving us, Liz, the star whale, the doctor getting angry, then I saved the creature. I saved it. Its all too much. It was terrifying and It was life threatening. It was amazing! I am the happiest I have been in a while. I'm in space! How is this real?

Amy is most definitely asleep by now but I just can't will myself into bed, I'm gonna blame it on the insomnia. Getting up off the counter I make my way back to the flight deck, guided by the TARDIS most of the way as I would have gotten lost without her. Stepping through the doors I wasn't expecting to see the Doctor at the panel fiddling about, and by the look on his face he didn't expect to see me either.

"What are you doing awake?" he asks moving around the console as I make my way down the stairs.

"Couldn't sleep, what about you?" I keep finding myself perched on strange areas like now, instead of sitting on the perfectly suitable seat I'm on the railing again, I did it a lot as a kid but was bullied for it so I grew out of it. I guess not.

"Timelords don't need to sleep as much as humans. I see you cleaned up and changed" looking down at my clean clothes consisting of blue jeans and an over sized jumper, not wearing shoes yet because I try not to wear them unless necessary.

"Yeah. The shower was great, and the closet had great choices too." I guess I have the TARDIS to thank for that though.

"Your jumper has a cartoon dinosaur on it. Isn't that a bit childish?" I can tell he's joking but isn't this the same person who got exited over a possible alien invasion 2 years ago?

"You're a mad man in a blue box wearing a tweed suit you stole, you cant say anything about how I look." The Doctor seems to process this information a bit before agreeing with me. He goes back to the console messing with random buttons and levers as I watch him.

"Doctor?" he simply hums in response.

"Why do you call me a bird? Like you use all these bird analogies with me. Why?" he looks up at me once I ask. He himself looks like he doesn't know why but he answers anyway.

"It fits you. Back on my planet we had these birds, but they weren't really birds. Anyway. You remind me of them. So, it fits you. And your names it literally phoenix." Ok the mad man has some valid points.

"Ok, fair enough on my name but how on earth do I remind you of this bird that not actually a bird?" how can a bird not actually be a bird? I look down as I try and figure it out in my head.

"Phoenix"

"Yeah?" looking at him I see he's now standing with his arms crossed leaning against the main console in front of me.

"You're perched" it takes me a solid few seconds to understand what he means. The railing.

"Oh!" I slowly slip myself off the railing and onto the actual seat next to it. "No, I'm not" this gets a laugh out of both of us but it doesn't last long as we both fall silent as we look at each other, it isn't awkward silence more comfortable and understanding, it's broken with a realisation from the Doctor.

"You don't trust me, do you?" moving to sit more comfortably I give him a tired smile.

"Not at all"

"You'll have to trust me at some point, you've known me for two years"

"No. I have known you for about 3 days" he looks confused. "I met you two years ago but that was for like half a day. Not even that, like 3 hours. Then you ran away because you got a new TARDIS and wanted to run her in" I quote what he told me back then as I never forgot that day.

"But I came back" he says as if that changed how much I trusted him.

"Yes, you came back after 2 whole years of nothing. Then you come in the middle of the night to whisk us away to all of space and time. Its gonna take a bit more than this to make me trust you" though my speech I stand up to be taller but still smaller that him.

"How will I win your trust?" I look at him for a moment trying to answer his question in my head, but a solid answer isn't coming to mind only a vague answer.

"Help me make memories I can never forget" both the Doctor and I can't seem to understand the answer, but in that moment, we didn't need to as Amy announces her presence at the top of the stairs.

"Am I interrupting something?" Her Scottish accent is loaded with tease as the Doctor and I separate, him going to the console and I move back to sitting on the railing.

"No, not at all. You ready for meeting the prime minister?" He asks her as she moves to the seat by me, and he whirls around the console getting us to where we need to go.

"As ready as I'll ever be" she answers leaning her head on my dangling legs causing me to smile. This is going to be exiting.
