Chapter 2 – Home Sweet Home!
I pushed open the cold, heavy bolted door and took a steady half hearted step inside. I felt instantly unwelcome. Still as though, something was following me. I stood taking everything around me. I could taste the dust floating onto my tongue. I coughed as it ok in a deep breath of dust, instantly my throat felt dry. I wanted to walk to the kitchen to grab a drink of water to stop my throat from being so dry, but I couldn’t. My feet were stuck, as if disconnected from my body. Stuck where I was I heard the door creep to a shit sounding like a brick smashing against a wall.
I heard a creaking upstairs on the landing, normally if it was one of the guys they would have shouted down to me. This didn’t feel right at all and I have been through a lot. I stood motionless, trapped in a void. “HELLO??” my voice croaked from the dust. “HELLO??” I tried again, clearer this time.
A good fifteen minutes had passed with still no reply. I started to smell fear getting its grasp around me. It started lingering around my ankles then slowly but surely I felt the hairs on end as it crept up my legs like snakes slithering up my trouser legs, at my hips it sent a spasm of shiver up my spine, it rolled like a cold marble across my shoulders causing me to hunch over, it sent a shot of goose bumps along my arms, then I felt a cold sweat on the back of my neck as it slithered up to the top of my head, it felt like I had been washed under a wave. A very slow wave.
Id finally found the courage to walk across the room. I picked up my old baseball bat, from Battery high School. Carefully avoiding the dark grey sofa and the strange flickering light, I walked towards the badly gratified door that lead to the stairs.
As I got to the door I thought ‘what am I doing? if there’s a murderer then I could die’ but through all my own persuasions not to go upstairs, my body was strongly attracted to whatever or whoever was up there.
Slowly, step by step, my perfectly untrimmed body walked up the stairs of doom. At each step the adrenaline rose and a different reason not to go up there came into my head. I was at the top of the stairs now. I stopped and listened to a noise I fancied id heard.
I jumped back about a foot, startled by the black, crisp shadow of something. Its red evil eyes glairing into mine, it was crouched over as if to send me flying into the door of which id just listened out for a noise. I could taste heavy, slow breaths coming at me as I took an even step forwards. And again, and again. I stepped into the bright white moonlight, still looking at the evil thing. As I looked closer I realised it was Mikey's bass guitar leaning against his amplifier. I changed my direction and carried on walking to the door.
I opened the door however as I did, I could feel my body getting closer to the floor. I was falling! As I lay there, I tried to move but I found I couldn’t as I hit the floor it was like my body was paralysed, all I could do was think.
